Looking for the impossible, I know. Turkeys.

Looking for the impossible, I know. Turkeys. - 06/21/19 04:16 PM

I have been in one club for four years, and was a turkey only member of another for one year ever since I moved back here five years ago, Neither I nor anyone of the few that hunted turkeys killed very many at either property. count them on the fingers on one hand. Both were fair size properties (3000 ac. plus each) I am not a beginner turkey hunter by any stretch and can usually do pretty good, at least where I used to hunt in Central Alabama, Missouri, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, but those opportunities are long gone. I am looking for a place in the southern quarter of the state, meaning Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Escambia, Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke, etc. If it has a place to stay that would be icing on the cake. I am not retired and would not be there every day of the season. I do not hunt on Sundays, I go to church (I may skip a Sunday if the weather is good and they are gobbling.lol.) I am looking for a turkey only membership, just stopped caring about the deer hunting like I used to. I was amazed when my Dad just gave it up after I got older, but now I understand. So, help is much appreciated. Blessings.

By turkey only, are you saying you want sole rights? Or would you not mind a few other sole turkey hunters to hunt it along side you?

If you find a larger place to lease turkey rights in one of those counties and need a partner shoot me a Pm.

No, not just me hunting. Just saying that I only want turkey rights, not interested in deer or other game.

These days its cheaper to join a club with a lot of land than it is to get turkey rights only.

I am willing to do that, but I have not found that to be the case. Not at all. Me and three others got turkey memberships a few years back on 3000 acres in Eastern Alabama for $500 each. We were shown turkeys on game cameras, habitat looked good, most of us never heard a gobble, one guy killed a jake. The other place in another part of Alabama, Western side, the membership is $1200 a year, also about 3000 ac. I was offered $600 for a turkey only membership. But I rarely hear a bird and haven't killed one in four years. Hence why I am looking at other tracts to hunt. For me, I was tempted to sign up for the turkey only but not at $600, maybe less, but that was not an option. At the full ride, I rarely if ever deer hunted. So if there were lots of birds, I'd be happy about "half-price". But there aren't.

Half -price, lol if you’re a turkey hunter cough up what the deer hunters pay, you enjoy it as much as they do. The advice on getting into a big club was good advice.
