D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 03/13/19 06:56 PM

Just thought I should post this in an effort to make some of you aware, before you get swindled by this guy. The president of the club is something, no board, changes rules to suit him when it suits him, no set number of members (varied all through season, with new members added randomly even in December), no work days, and now Turkey memberships being added the week before season opens. The list goes on and on but beware what you are getting into before joining this club! The club is based on three parcels of land two around Vina and one in Bear Creek, the Vina tracks had 1 8pt (small 11" spread) and 3 does killed the entire season with at least 34 members (real number unknown as names were added to the pin out board all the time) if that gives you an idea.

I was in a club once in Pea Ridge (Montevallo) about 20+ years ago the pres was doing crap like that. Anytime he needed money for vacation, house payment, etc he’s pull crap like that.

Been there done that. Never again. I was in a club that had 1200 acres and 16 members. Returning members paid 950, new members 1050. He lost the lease. The lease price for the place was around $7,000 I think.

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 03/13/19 09:50 PM

Not Grizz Darren is his name. Never a club meeting, no seed bought for green fields despite four of the local suckers bush hogging and disking the place or that’s what I was told. In his defense he never publicly said how many members he was going to have just that he needed 15 or so.

Pretty sure he just does it to pay his private lease but honestly who knows with this character.

Old Grizz...still wearing the same outfit he was when my wife and I met him many years ago.

She still mentions how bad he smelled whenever we drive past a dead armadillo....says how it reminds her of that time we rode in his truck. We had all the windows wide open and the stench still haunts her..... rofl

Grizz appears to have mastered the long arm photo technique. That buck's head/face looks to be 2 ft long from his ears to his nose and every bit as big as Grizz's overtly large torso and chest. Those G-2's must be 16-18" since they are as long as the distance from his elbow to the tips of his fingers. rolleyes Grizz sounds like a real stand-up guy. You think he has any openings?????? slap

Im sorry Guys, I was the one who posted that they needed members for that club. I had very high expectations for that club but was left extremely disappointed. the fields were terrible, No shooting houses, and terrible communication from the pres. they did have work days but the notification was a last minute thing and then it was just a post on the club Facebook page. I had to work that weekend so I didn't make it. I was then told that I had to pay $100 for not going to the work days. I hunted the place 1 time didn't see anything and wont be joining the club next year.

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 03/20/19 09:40 PM

Yeah if you paid for not making the work day you got screwed because there wasn't a work day. There were 3-4 local guys who from what they told me spent two days bush hogging and spraying for green fields. The president nor any other members showed up to help. One of the 3 guys bought all of what seed was bought and spread them out of his own pocket. So if you paid a work day fee that went straight in the presidents pocket or to his personal lease because there were no work days. As for communication yeah that was bad heck I didn't even know there was a facebook page until you posted it if that tells you anything just now. If you can send me the link so I can look it up.

I am sure he will start looking for new members because I know he will have a ton of turn over after this year so guys beware!!!!!!!!

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 03/20/19 09:48 PM

So after some google work I did find a wix page for the club that is a few years old. The pictures on the page do it justice guys well the deer pics the green fields looked nothing like that. But you can expect to see 2-3 giants the class of those in the main page pictures if you hunt hard all season. Do your homework

That club has pictures of dead 1- and 2-year old bucks. Not exactly ideal.

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 03/21/19 02:57 PM

Like I said par for the course and there weren't many of those this year. Me and one of the other members road every road on one portion of the club 12 hours after a rain and crossed 4 sets of tracks if that tells you anything. 900 acres in that parcel 34 members (or names on the pin out board), 3 does and two basket racked bucks a 7pt and 8 pt neither was more than 12" wide.

Not ideal for who? Their club rules state that the deer have to be 6pt or better and doesn't have a age requirement so everyone who joins should wise enough to know that it isn't a trophy club. As for the adding extra members during the season....that is a whole new ballgame.

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 04/03/19 07:06 AM

I hunted in this club for several years myself. After seeing good members constantly leaving this club year after year, I finally had enough and picked up a couple leases on my own. As mentioned above the president is only running this club to pay for his personal lease. We always heard about how gates and roads were going to be fixed, about how good of green fields we were going to plant that year and about how we were going to have a couple different club meetings throughout the summer to line everything up but none of it ever happened!!! If any work was going to get done or fields were going to get planted a few of us members would have to pull together and by the seed and put in the work ourselves because once the money was in his pocket he no longer cared about anything but his personal lease. Like the other guys said he was constantly adding members, one year I was at the club opening day of bow season getting ready to go in for a afternoon hunt and here comes the president riding through the land showing it to potential new members after season had already started and other members had already spent the time and money getting everything ready. He would also lie about the acreage we actually had to make it look better on him as he continued to add new members. I knew this was coming to him one day due to the number of people he has lied to and done wrong. I would definitely recommend staying away from this club!!!

Re: D and D Hunting Club Marion County Buyer Beware - 04/03/19 07:03 PM

I am not sure when you were in the club but it has not changed if anything it has gotten worse based on what I understand from talking to several former members privately. The green fields this year were handled the same way, several members prepared them with one guy buying the seed out of his pocket. The president is still pulling the same, song and dance on roads, gates, and green fields and if you ask him he has grand plans but from what I can tell he didn't set foot on the place other than selling memberships, now that he is good at! Worse this year on the roads is that the tornado that came through there at the end of season blew down lots of trees so most of the roads are unpassable. I will try to keep bumping this post up periodically to let everyone know the true circumstances of what they are getting into if they choose this club.

I’m sure it’s more like 90 when you count wives and children. They should just aim for a person every acre.

Plus turkey only memberships, which no one was aware of that he was selling in March, and another member mentioned predator only memberships had been sold in the past. So like I said his main goal is to sale memberships.
