Wow I used to live that place. Hunted many of days back in the sinks and took a number of turkey from there. It has been maybe 12 years since I hunted there, maybe longer and I think the place was down to a fraction of the size. Hardly anything past the old gate I think. We quit hunting it when that happened. Lots of good memories there and a beautiful property. I am thinking a lot of it went to forever wild but that could have just been a rumor. I would look up Horace Clemmons, I think that is right. He would be able to get you in the right direction.

I'll ride up to the store on 65 and ask about Horace Clemmons.

Do you know of any Hunting clubs in paint rock valley that you would have the name and number of the person taking in members? I hunt on coal mine mountain now
like to have another place as well.

I think Horace is not related and had nothing to do with the folks that had Clear Creek. He moved to "the Valley" several years ago and I think it's just a coincidence he lives in the same area with the same name.

The old Clear Creek was legendary on a December Doe Day. I should have bought and old Ice Cream truck and used that to peddle ammo by the front gate.

The old Clear Creek HC to locals was before Jackson County had any doe days.

That's funny because I hunted behind his house on several doe days in the 80's. I guess that wasn't the "old club"? What about when I shot a 10 pointer in the pasture in front of his house when I was home for Chistmas in 1994? Club was still there. That wasn't the "old club"?

I'd like to hear from an internet troll what was the old club like 2Dogs? Go Ahead.

I was a member during the early to mid 80's........Quiet a few interesting but fun characters for sure. I enjoyed it. I got a trophy somewhere for biggest buck with a bow one year.

Prior to 1985 there were no doe days in Jackson Co. and Clear Creek dates back to the 70's.

Re: Clear creek club jackson county AL. - 11/15/18 02:04 AM

Didn’t we have doe days right after Christmas? Wasn’t it just a few days?

I am sure if you drive to the end of CR 10 you could find someone who could provide info on if they still hunt back there.

I’m pretty sure it is Horace that lives past the old gate. He was related to Floyd I think.

Yes , but not until mid 80s . I went to a CAB meeting in Gulf Shores representing the Jackson County Sportsman's Club and asked for the "doe days" . They granted a few days during the Holidays the following season .

Jackson Co. got doe days the same year the gun opener was moved from the Friday before Thanksgiving to Saturday. Both were done at the same CAB meeting.

Was my understanding Floyd and Horace were not relatives, I think they spelled their names differently . Seems like Horace was from out of state .

Re: Clear creek club jackson county AL. - 11/15/18 01:51 PM

There is still a hunting club back there (if we are talking about the same one, County Rd 10) and Mr. Horace Clemmons over sees it or at least he did several years ago.

Think its around 4k acres now with a bunch of members

2Dogs - when did the "old club" end and the "new club" start? Just curious since you stated the Old Club didn't have doe days. I'd say you don't know what you are talking about. Please provide sufficient information so that others can confirm you don't know what you are talking about as well.

I''ll say with confidence that CC or any other club in Jackson Co. didn't have legal doe days prior to about 1985. As far as old and new, continuous , whatever ya wanta call it, CC dates back to 1971 and was probably the first "club" in the area. I can also state with confidence you are a jackass.

Before 85 Skyline would have 1500 people show up for the muzzle loader hunt being the only time you could shoot does. I was going to ask the other day if anyone use to go on those hunts. You would have to stand in line for an hour to get a permit. I can remember it sounded like popcorn with shots ringing out up and down the valley.

Re: Clear creek club jackson county AL. - 11/16/18 03:10 PM

One of my first couple deer hunts was one of those muzzleloader hunts. It was awesome. Kilt about a 65lb doe. I handed the gun to my father because I was too little and couldn't see over some brush. While we were arguing about who was going to shoot the deer ran up the hill a little bit where I could see it and he handed it back to me... Boom. Never forget that. First deer I ever kilt with a smoke pole. I remember my Dad picked it up and hung it on a tree to gut it by the back legs with one hand. grin

That's like a duck hunter living in Arkansas next to Bayou Meto and telling me he ain't never hunted it.... Things that make you go... Huh.

I can remember broncos and blazers lined up for what seemed like a mile waiting to get a permit at the Rash store.

Clear creek is the club up front on county rd 10, its a smaller club. I'm in the old "clear creek", which is now named McFarland hollow hunting club. It's around 3,800 acres that sits between Sharp and bingham Mountains. PM me your phone number and ill send you the contact of the guy in charge.

This is the dangedest thing.
A guy from Grant was by the office yesterday and we were shooting the breeze. He’s moved to Daphne but he still comes back to visit friends and family.
He has a camper at ....you guessed it ... Clear Creek.
I’ve never heard of the place but the coincidence just seemed odd. He said someone died and the place got split up. Part he’s on is only 240 acres. I just listened and didn’t mention it had been a topic on here.

Sounds like it was/is part of Floyd Clemons property , it was split up between his three children a while back.
