Good club indeed. If I still lived in Baldwin County I'd join back. Their neighbor to the north on the other side of Pine Log Creek is Carnie. thumbup thumbup gun

Probably afraid you'd be piddlin' around on club land in March and April. You know, scouting for next deer season. The proper response is "I was only carrying that shotgun for protection from snakes." thumbup

Alan was quick to respond to my questions a month or so ago. When I found out I couldn't turkey hunt, my interest diminished a good bit. I understand limiting the turkey members, however I just wish I was on the other side of the equation.

How many of the 40 members get to turkey hunt and do they pay extra to be able to turkey hunt?
Posted By: walt4dun

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/24/18 12:49 AM

20 turkey spots.
An extra $250 if you are a deer member.
Its the same price as deer only if you join for turkey only.

I know as of now there isnt anyone on the deer hunting waiting list... call Alan if you are interested now.

Walt, are you sure on your dues? I heard it's $2100 for deer only. I may have heard wrong, though.

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/24/18 03:01 AM

Are they still doing that silly raffle before the season starts? That sucks he's put a limit on the # of turkey hunters. There was a full group opening weekend and it tapered off throughout the rest of the season when I was a member.Plenty of birds though.

I heard rumor ol Alan was using the turkey memberships as leverage to boost his insurance sales...

Doubtful

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/24/18 12:26 PM

Yeah thats bulldoodoo.

It may very well be $2100 for deer only this year. They are doing away with the raffle and collecting all at once. Which is fine by me its worth.

Limiting the turkey memberships is absolutely the way to go.
Sorry it cuts out a spot for you but you get in for deer and get on the list and one will open up eventually.
We are just up the road and across the street from Upper Delta so you can do your turkey hunting there.
It can be excellent hunting in there to be sure. I hunt over there some still.

How’s the deer hunting at south side ?

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/24/18 12:51 PM

Buck rules are 4 on one side and 13" spread. We are on DMAP and they want us to shoot 70 does a year. We collect all the jawbones of all deer and send them in.
Most years we kill close to 100 deer off the club. I have killed at least one mature buck off the club every year and most of my friends do too. Last year I shot an 11, 8, and a doe. I could have shot plenty more does if I wanted and I passed on a broke off main beam buck that was 3.5 yo and a slew of other small bucks. I didn't even really hunt hard until January...

We have a lot of property and direct neighbors practicing QDM. Our club (9446ac), Carney to our north with a 14" spread rule (8500ac), Ft Pierce across Hwy 59 with serious trophy rules and fines (4300ac). So a total of 22,246ac under QDM... I dont think you can find that anywhere else in Baldwin County. There are bucks out there that get old enough to reach their genetic potential for the habitat they are on. Some NICE bucks have come out of Southside and surrounding clubs. Most mature bucks are still going to be 13 - 14" 8 pts, 160lb#... but its fun and the chance to shoot a rare giant is there.

The One Year I was a Member I bought all $200 worth of raffle tickets. I was Lucky enough to be the winner of the raffle- Browning A-Bolt 2 30-06 Springfield. That rifle is now what I use to deer hunt with the most.

Just what i heard. And it came from what I'd consider a fairly reliable source.

Regardless, I guess i dont understand how the membership recruitment works. Your saying that in 3 years there hasnt been a full membership open up?

One of my best friends is/was supposedly second on the list and he hasnt recieved a call either and he didnt have turkey as a requirement for getting in.

Surely you meant that as a joke. You can't seriously believe that shucks. His ALFA office probably has 5000 customers and you think he could use 20 turkey spots to make a significant influence in his business?

Sorry you don't like it but I understand his reasoning. Turkey hunters have to be limited. They can't be reasoned with. You couldn't have a club with every member a "real" turkey hunter unless you had a MINIMUM 400 acres per member.

If you were locked in a room with a rabid dog, Hanibal Lecter and a turkey hunter. You have a gun with only two bullets. Who do you shoot? The turkey hunter, twice. Sum butches are crazy.

Look at the feelings this post has exposed. Hogwild and Squeaky ran into the same righteous indignation when they just MENTIONED they already had a couple serious turkey hunters so that prospective members would know there was competition for the birds ahead of time.

Turkey Hunting on South Side should be Well above average since No legal turkey hunting was allowed for at least 40 years or more. I have seen at least 70 turkeys while driving down the 12 mile long main road in the past.

I never said i didnt like. I implied that i found it highly unlikely that in 3 years not one turkey slot has opened up. Personally i think 20 is too many.

And no.. i didnt mean it as a joke. Thats what i was told. I didn't state it as fact.

You sure like to put words in people's mouth.

Maybe Alan read where you post rumors about a mans business on internet boards and decided he didn't want the drama in the club? Not sure of the reason. Not stating a fact. Just a possibility I thought of.

I would agree that may be possible... IF this post hadn't showed up first saying they needed members.

I honestly dont care if the rumors are or aren't true. I did hear it and It did come from what I would consider a reliable source. Regardless, that's not the point of my response to this.

The point was, that I find it odd that a club needs members, and i know for a fact there are/were names on a waiting list, but yet they didnt call those people before a post made it onto aldeer.

I suppose it's possible that they lost the list.

^^^ This for sure^^^
Good club to join and well worth the time & money. If I were to move back to Baldwin County i would rejoin for sure.

Rumors are just that rumors. If it doesn't involve me then who cares? My life is busy enough for me to live. I don't need to start worrying about how others live there's. That's their business.

If it wasn't for Illinois I would be over there hunting with you again Walt. Sounds like you had a good year. Congrats.

Not surprised that people are still on the turkey waiting list. Lot of land and low number of hunters.
I am a member and am on the turkey waiting list. Not a serious turkey hunter though.
I have never had a problem with any board member or member and have enjoyed my time in the club.

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/28/18 01:24 PM

I hunt a small property that is on the south side of south side. We killed a 5.5 year old 12" wide 8pt. And a 4.5 13" wide 7pt. Our neighbor killed an 18" wide 8 during bow season last year. There's a lot of different genetics around there. We've had more young 2.5 year old bucks on camera than we've ever had. This coming season looks to be a good year. I may join one year if I lose some land but as of now I can't cover the land I hunt in one season. I've heard nothing but good things about this club. When the Delta floods, we get flooded with deer weve never seen before. It is an all around good area.

Re: South Side Hunting Club. Baldwin County - 03/29/18 03:22 AM

Id love for yall to join up, bigt & slippinlipjr. I always enjoyed hunting with yall and hanging out and hope to again.

alhawk & his daughter had an encounter last year with one of those ‘rare giants’.
Double main beamed wall hanger. Another member ended up killing him. Wish it had been your daughter!

slippinlipjr you are right about that river swamp flooding.
I killed my best SS buck on that big power line off 59 that January the water came up so high a few years back. We were covered up with deer. We killed an 8pt or better everyday in January it seemed that year it was nuts.

I remember wet fall & winters led to better harvest due to swamps flooding. Good club to join. Making me homesick.
