Club in Paint Rock Valley - Jackson County - 03/08/18 09:44 PM

Maxwell Mountain Hunting Club is located just north of Princeton AL in the Paint Rock Valley of Jackson County

We have at last count 5 openings for the next season.

I am not an officer of this club, I am simply a member trying to help in the recruiting process. The following is a little bit of info I put together. If you are interested, then take a look at this info and direct any questions to either myself or the other two contacts. If you are serious about joining, we can arrange for someone to meet you at the club property and show you around.
If you do contact one of the officers, please tell them I sent you this info package.

Regards,
Paul Leopard

Club Name: Maxwell Mountain Hunting Club
Location: Princeton, AL (Paint Rock Valley)
Gate GPS Coordinates: 34°53'12.82"N 86°16'4.03"W

Notes:
• Yearly dues are $1000
• The club requires 4 work days per year, usually right before the season opens up. If you miss without making arrangements they will supposedly fine you $100 per session.
• The club maintains around 35 members although I see roughly 20 hunters that regularly hunt it.
• Size is 4500 acres according to the club president. I have not verified this though.
• A pretty good chunk of the area (in red on the maps) is set aside for a no-hunting zone where deer are fed year round.
• Most of the club is accessible with a 4WD truck however an ATV is extremely helpful here
• I’ve counted 35 food plots; this may vary a bit though.
• There are two primitive camp areas, both located on Lick Fork Rd (the road that runs north from the entrance gate. You can bring a camper and leave it there year round but there is no running water, electricity, or other facilities. My camper is the first one you will see when traveling north on Lick Fork Rd.
• You are allowed 1 doe per year, taken with a bow or rifle
• You are allowed 2 bucks per year, taken with bow or rifle
• Members are allowed to hunt all legal game on this property
• This is a trophy club. Your first buck must score a minimum of 110” and the 2nd must score a minimum of 125”. You are expected to know how to field score a buck and this rule is strictly enforced with a $500 fine.
• Our full member count would be 35. We usually have 15-20 members that hunt on a regular basis

President: Roger Dean. Roger grew up in the area and has a vast knowledge of the entire range. Also Ken Yelvington is doing most of the recruiting for the club

Contact Info:

Roger Dean (President) he can be hard to get ahold of and his messages are often not delivered. Let me know if you have trouble getting in touch with him

Make sure that they know it’s only 2 turkeys per year.

You’re right matt, but when there’s forty eleven people standing around the gate everyday, and you get stopped everyday, it’s makes it tough. Plus there was a “mandatory” game check board. Too much drama around that place too. A set of rules for you and a different set for me. NEXT!

I’ve enjoyed my first year there. I didnt see many folks hunting, but who I met were willing to help. Dang sure no drama. Saw some nice bucks. I’m signing up for next year.

Re: Club in Paint Rock Valley - Jackson County - 03/10/18 04:50 PM

This will be my third year in the club, and I have thouroughly enjoyed it. Drama? Haven’t seen the first bit of it. Great group of like minded hunters, never been held to any rules that others weren’t. Very fair if you ask me. Never had an issue with anyone in the club, seen some of the best deer I’ve ever seen, and it’s some of the prettiest land in north Alabama. Great deer get killed here, it’s certainly not a club where everyone kills everything they see. The numbers here are great, and it’s proven to work. Most of us are more deer here than anywhere we’ve hunted hands down. If you don’t like the rules, it’s probably not for you. If you want to kill small deer, and a ton of does, it’s probably not for you. If you can follow the rules like an honest man, you will enjoy your experience. It’s that simple. The pressure on these deer has been minimal the last few years. I’ve hunted this land a lot during my time in the club, and there is never more than 5-7 people at a time most weekends. It’s a good club, and is much better than the majority of clubs in this area.

A buddy of mine is in the club. He's tried getting me to join several times, but I already have 2 other places that I hunt and don't want to spread myself to thin chasing properties.

This will be my third season as well. This is a good club. Out of 35 members we generally have 15 active hunters. Of these we all get along very well. We have a great crew of guys. We help each other when needed, keep track of each other, stay in touch with each other, and respect each other. The club rules are reasonable and the president does value our opinion. If you can find things to take issue with about this club then I am glad you aren’t a member. You would not fit in here and we don’t need any negative talkers to join. Good luck finding a good club and folks that will put up with your negative attitude

Excuse me? You don’t even know me, so you’d better tread lightly. I’ll call it like i see it. And I didn’t lie one time, even though I was lied to a lot. If you like the club fine, I’m only trying to help out some folks so they can rest assured they’re spending their money wisely. There’s a reason this club IN JACKSON COUNTY is on here every single year looking for members. Think about it, 99% of the clubs in this county don’t have to advertise.

Not sure why you’re so concerned with this club. If you don’t like the rules, or had a bad experience then so be it. That’s your right. But there’s no need to get on here and bad mouth it. the guys who are active in the club enjoy it and have had a great experience. I don’t speak for everyone, just from my own experience, but it’s been great.. You sound like you disagree with certain things, and that happens in most clubs to begin with. This post is for people who may be interested, everything is clear in the post, and if someone wants to join, they need to hear from members who are active. Not people like you who just want to troll a post and run your mouth. Most of us enjoy it, do you have a problem with us saying that? If so, maybe you should go somewhere else and find yourself a club who will accept you and allow you to dictate the rules. Like I said, you can express your opinion and I’m fine with that, but I haven’t seen any truth in anything you have said regarding this club. I’ll take my chances just like rocket, that we will have another great year here.

well I guess me and the others on this site that have been in this club just made up all this crap. You’ll figure it out one day, hopefully you won’t waste too much money before you do. Ive been on this site a lot longer than you by far, and I’m not trolling a damn thing. There’s plenty on here that know that. But hey, by all means, do what you want. But I’ve already saved a few from wasting their money through pms, and that’s why I posted in the first place.

Like i said, I respect your opinion, and that’s your right. I’m just speaking from personal experience as well, and I haven’t had a single problem in this club. I’ve spent a lot of time hunting there, and it serves me fine. I have access to a lot of land, and minimal hunters for a decent price. I don’t join clubs and expect perfection. You have a bunch of grown men with differing opinions. There is always going to be an issue somewhere. Because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean that our good experiences are irrelevant. Most everyone I know in this club really enjoys it, and has had a good experience the last three years. Maybe it was worse when you joined, that I don’t know. But currently, things are great here, and that’s why I’m expressing my opinion.

That was by no means a threat dude. It meant watch how you talk to other people, even if it is a Internet forum. You don’t know how I am and neither do I. But you will treat me with respect, because I have treated you with nothing but respect. And now you’re just acting like a child because you disagree with what I said.

Dang bud you really have an issue here don’t you? Your negative opinion gets some push back with multiple positive opinions about a club you aren’t currently a member of and you act like this? Come on man. Act like you want some respect. Let others decide for themselves about this club. You’re not needed in this thread. .

Yea you’re right, frankly I don’t really give a damn anymore. At least it’ll keep the inexperienced hunters piled in one place, making the rest of the clubs in the valley better. Y’all have fun killing the 115” 8 pointers on that place.

40-11 around the gate? I didn't see anyone standing around a gate. We were provided keys to come and go as we please.
Get stopped everyday? Heck a few days I had the place to myself. And when I did see someone, nobody stopped me except to ask If I needed help dragging a deer.
Mandatory game check board is just a board to log your kill on. Man, that's serious stuff there.

I would join in a heartbeat if the turkey limit wasnt 2. I would likely never set foot on it for a deer (and they won’t sell turkey only memberships) and I just cant let go of $1000 for 2 turkeys, assuming I was having a good spring of course. Rest assured that place has fantastic genetics as there have been giant deer (for Alabama) killed in that area all of my life. With the trigger restraint they practice on bucks and taking it easy on the does, the deer hunting has to be really good. Best of luck to all involved! thumbup
