Check out the facebook page of North Cahaba Sportsmen Association. Not my type of club but I expect if it is legit, they will find members.

Sounds great if you don't mind $1500 to possibly shoot two does, as that is the doe limit. Did you read their expectations for buck? For all practicality in Alabama, buck shooting is not allowed in this club. Their goals are to pass 4-6 year old bucks and only shoot the 7-9 year olds, IF, they weigh 200+ live weight and are 140+ or some kind of enumerated unrealistic expectations.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and bucks like this are numerous up there. After all, it is close to the mountainous region of Pelham.

I got to the part where they said "no shots beyond 40 yards" before I realized it was a bow only club.

jawbone, those buck guidelines are a freaking joke, moreso with bow only.

Is it fenced property or something?

I didn't even make it to the bow only part before I realized they don't do much shooting in that club. Maybe they have plenty of armadillos to whet their arrow flinging appetites.

Re: Looking for decent club near Bham - 07/09/17 04:37 PM

Not fenced. Looks like the property runs from Grants Mill Road up towards Barber's Race Track then across I20 towards Trussville.
I am afraid a even bigger challenge than killing a buck that meets their requirements will be keeping the poachers at bay.

Yes... It looks like one of your three bucks has to be over 140". Seems like you get two others. That would be a hell of a good deal if it wasn't for the weird rules.

I have killed some very good deer off that land, esp north of I-20. VERY good deer. Grants Mill side was loaded with turkeys.

and plenty of poachers, damn near a full time job. That and joy riders all year.

I know exactly the property your talking about.. That's markeeta north of I-20. I'm one of those joy riders grin

Whoever has that land now has put it on lockdown... Going as far as patrolling with helicopters. Shooting a 140" deer out there shouldn't be a problem because there are ALOT of big deer out there.

I, or my wife, killed a 140+ out there every years for years.

USS doesn't allow firearms on their property, that's why its a bow only club

Lawsuit back in the 80's over a kid killed in a car passing on I-20 near present day Barber/Bass Pro said no guns on that property.

Wasn't it proven the kid was shot elsewhere later?

I got you.. I thought it was a USS policy. Guy I know leases 450 acres from USS in the same area and in the lease, it specifies no guns.

I've been stopped by GW and RR police out there and they always ask if we have a firearm. Guess I know why now.. They were always cool and let us go about our way until recently. Word spread that fines were steep if caught riding now so I haven't been out there since last fall

never proven as far as I know. LOT of speculation that the shot came from another car behind them. I don't see how a bullet could of possibly come from the USSteel land as there is a high hill along the interstate.

That shooting incident stopped me from hunting that land. It was 15 minutes from my work so I was out there every afternoon and most weekends.

Eddie salter was on one of the facebook page's talking about the law, camera's and helicopter out there..pretty sure that's why there is no turkey hunting. he is probably in on it and has the turkey hunting right's.

Re: Looking for decent club near Bham - 08/15/17 09:47 PM

Hey guys not sure the OP found what he was looking for. I am new here but my club down in Chelsea has a few open spots. It's 900 acres with 11 members max. We are fairly new club but looking to build a long lasting hunting club that our families can enjoy. So that being said we are looking for some responsible members who aren't shooting everything that moves. If you are interested pm me for details.

Re: Looking for decent club near Bham - 08/15/17 10:54 PM

Sent you a PM AUBHunter. I have hunted some of that land you guys are talking about before. There are deer there that is for sure. I agree with most of you guys. Not many clubs can produce consistent 140 in this state. I work for the number one selling outdoor magazine in this state and I can assure you no club can produce 140 inch deer for every member in this state without being high fenced. We get emails and photos of deer from all over the state and score a ton each year. This isn't Georgia. We just don't have that quality here and until the laws are changed state wide to help produce those type deer for the state we won't. The probability is pretty darn low. That being said it is their club. They can do what they wish. I wonder if it is one of those where that is the rules, but a certain few do what they want? It would be nice to hunt that close and I only shoot trophies, but I have kids that hunt and they are not quite ready for the bow hunting.
