8,000 acre Club North Tuscaloosa Co - 07/05/11 12:09 PM

I joined Buckhorn hunting club a few weeks ago and they still need members. 8000 with Warrior river as east boundary. Panther and Blue creeks run through property. 70 food plots. Good hog, deer and turkey population. Many power and gas lines. A lot of hardwoods but some in VERY hilly terrain. MANY ponds for fishing. Campsite with water and sewer for about $250 a year for power. 3 hogs per year per hunter, state laws on bucks (no trophy management). One doe per membership. Largest buck last year was 148 BC. Cut off at 40 members. $1,000. PM me if interested with any questions. They seem like a great group of guys just wanna help them out. The economy is hurting everyone!

What is the reasoning behind shooting any state legal buck but only allowing 1 doe per membership?

Yeah they hunt hogs year round so they want to have some regulation on it. But it is 3 per person, like my son hunts and he is under my membership so he can take 3 too. There are a LOT of coyotes around and they cut back on does to compensate. I don't have a problem with it.

I'd be willing to bet I've hunted part of that land.......in the mid 80's.

That is nice chunk of land and seems to be a good price with that many acres per member. Seems like most clubs of that size and price have some form of buck management program beyond the state regulations. If it works for you, that is all that matters. Hope you have a great season.

Guys, if you're not interested in the man's club, don't bash it. If you want to pay up to join and then try to get the rules changed, have at it. He's advertising memberships, not looking for opinions.

Thanks driveby! I have my own bow only lease in the belt. We only shoot culls and mounters on 1300 ac. We slaughter does when we can. I know about management. I also respect these guys for how they want to hunt. They enjoy themselves and do the best they can. If you could mash this 8,000 flat, it would probably be 20,000-seriously! There are so many places that if you hunted there you would litterally have to pack a deer out piece by piece if you killed it there. Not for my overweight 50 year old self! But there are also plenty of other places to hunt. Point is that there is so much sanctuary there is no way except by idiotic neglect they could cause much damage to this heard.

So far every deer I have seen there was a buck. And of 70 food plots not one has been damaged by hogs. I used to hunt a place in MS that had hogs and you could barely ride a truck through a field without busting a shock. They are not out of control here.

They shot a 148 last year in a food plot. How many clubs, even in the belt can saw that? There is a booner running there too they've seen the last two years. one guy missed him. I'm not debating you guys because I think it was rude of you to comment the way you did here in this thread. That's really all I have to say about it-period. But I'll be glad to answer any questions from serious prospects.

I am also wondering why have a limit of one doe, but shoot 3 bucks?
Oh yeh, I am not bashing the club; I might be intrested. I usually here people wanting you to shoot more does and less bucks, so naturaly a person wonders why>

Low deer density in this area. The three bucks is excessive but the one doe makes good sense. We haven't shot any on our place in two years, on purpose.

I was in it. I killed my first deer and turkey off of this land before it was a club in the 80's. It's tough hunting.

I was in it for one year back in 2010-2011. It might be 8,000 acres but a lot of it is un-huntable because it's so steep. There are some big bucks up there, but they're tough to hunt due to the terrain. It's a beautiful area though

I think Tony and his dogs put a lot of pressure on the deer, but IMO its awesome for hog hunting especially on the south side of the club, in the field called Graveyard you see a sounder everytime you sit in that stand. We killed about 20 bucks last season, you might know Gabby, he killed a 240 pound buck last year too.

Yep, it really is. Its just an awesome all around club that has all sorts of game. I often talk to the Club President who is about 75 yrs old and he said he has hunted that land since he was a teenager. I am not sure of this part put since he is a very honest man, I don't think he was lying when he said he has seen a lot of cougars and bear in our club too. I also forgot to mention that we kill A LOT of turkeys each year.
