Start posting names of deadbeats and we can just adjust payment and send 3% as the buyer or not do business with them. Or if they don’t pay up, block them from classifieds or delete their ads

Re: well - 12/03/19 03:35 AM

I think the problem with calling people out is that the 3% is only suggested at this point.

Maybe more than a suggestion in the future if I read Skinny right.

Skinny are some of the guys ignoring the 3% repeat offenders?

Are they aldeer veterans that know better or rookies?

Im surprised this is still going on given how much it was discussed a few weeks ago.

If you sell an item and dont submit payment within 15 days it’s a $100 late fee to do business (buy or sell) in the classifieds again.

Good grief!

It’s freaking 3%.......you gotta sell something over $3k to even get the $100 mulligan.

Selling $1k guns, it’s only $30.....flea bay probably costs you more, and nobody even likes them.

Re: well - 12/03/19 03:58 AM

I think some folks just need every penny they can get and are good folks who are thinking they will make it up later. Credit living people, its a world wide problem. I understand, I have been there many years ago and eventually paid down the tough times, it did take a while.
Others though are bad folks who take advantage of a good thing, I want to weed those asshats out on here. Honest society used to keep them knocked back but nowadays we dont have the face to face to get them out. I am thinking something up though.

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:14 AM

I have always considered it a special privilege to be able to sell or buy here in the classifieds. Have always done right by my 3% each time I have sold something here. I'm gonna do right every time because I know that one day I'm going to answer to the Lord God for all I've done whilst here on this earth. I surely don't need Him chastising me over a little ol' 3% that I owed to Skinny Digger. grin

I reckon some folks here act like it's their right to use this place and do so without paying up. I'd get real harsh with those folks and wouldn't feel one bit bad about doing so.

I just hope you come up with a way to deal with the situation, so that all the folks here that does do right, doesn't get punished for the wrong of a few.

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:21 AM

Billy you have been on this site from the beginning and you know how it works. I do not want to ruin a good thing over those who take advantage and of-course you have seen that from the beginning over 20 years ago. It has been that long.
Posted By: Cuz-Pat

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:36 AM

Yes, Jason, you are correct. We have had a real good thing here for a long, long time. It sure is aggravating to know that we have a bunch here now that won't do right and you are having to deal with this crap so much.

This place has been a ton of enjoyment and a blessing to me for the last 20 years. It really doesn't seem like it has been that long but my, the years really have went on by us.

I'll live with and do right by whatever you come up with on this situation. Thanks so much for what we have had for such a long time. thumbup

Seems like the simple solution would be to suspend the users account if they don't pay.

Call them out publicly and let the natives tear em down! Lol!

Re: well - 12/03/19 07:45 AM

If I’m screwing up you can let me know publicly or through PM. I listed a trailer on here but it sold off my Facebook market place ad. Do I still pay a 3% fee here because I listed it or do I only pay here when it sells as a result of the ad on Aldeer?
Posted By: trailertrash

Re: well - 12/03/19 10:36 AM

I think your fine NSDQ. If Skinny took 3% for every listing regardless of sale on site he'd be a politician.

Charging a membership fee to use the classifieds wouldn't bother me but with all the free places to sell out there it would likely lead to a slow death of the category on aldeer.

Why not just send a message with amount due to any seller when the item is listed as sold. Give them a grace period then if not paid suspend membership.
Posted By: Shaw

Re: well - 12/03/19 03:44 PM

Then folks will list as sold on another site. Plus we don’t have time to be sending all those messages.
Posted By: GomerPyle

Re: well - 12/03/19 03:58 PM

are a majority of offenders relatively new members (people joining just so they can post on the classifieds) or is it long-time members? As someone mentioned in the last thread, many forums require a minimum post count or minimum wait period after joining before you can even see the classifieds, much less post in them......cause I guarantee you that guy that joins the site and his first/only post is a classifieds post isn't paying the 3% fee. In fact, they probably honestly don't know they're supposed to because I seriously doubt they're reading the rules first anyway.

I don't know if it's possible, based on the software running the site, but possibly:

1. minimum post count of 100 posts to even see that there is a classifieds, then
2. once a user meets 100 posts and can see the classifieds, they have to request access that has to be approved by a Moderator
3. make them click through something stating they've read/agreed to the rules, including the 3% donation

unfortunately I don't know that there's much way around that, unless you charge a fee just to list it to begin with. I know a lot of folks probably post items on Facebook Marketplace and craigslist, in addition to here and I'm sure many do sell on those sites before it sells here, but undoubtedly some will say that just to avoid paying the donation...
Posted By: GomerPyle

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:06 PM

I would also suggest editing the original "Classifieds Rules" post and remove the part that says the donation upon sale "would be nice" and change it to "is required"
Posted By: odocoileus

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:09 PM

I am on another automotive forum that requests donations from members to sponsor the site. Their names are listed on the top, etc. I am sure it helps to offset the cost of running the site., which I assume is not cheap. However, the ones that would donate to support the site are the ones that are paying the 3% anyway. Maybe it really is time for an ALdeer premium that allows you to post in the classified other wise it's read only.
Posted By: gundoc

Re: well - 12/03/19 04:12 PM

As far as I know, I'm current on paying my 3%.

A few times in the past I had multiple items sell at the same time and I'd send 1 payment for all, for the actual selling price, not the initial asking price.

If I'm not, or there are any questions, you can let me know via PM or in an open forum...I'll make it right.

I'd also be on board for a paid membership...I like this place and want to see it succeed

Re: well - 12/03/19 06:10 PM

I sent $10 on an ad for a deer for firewood trade and found out it was illegal so I'm out the money and a deer. Whatever, figure I've caused exponentially more aggravation here than $10 worth. And has been suggested, just charge $5.00 for any ad posted and be done with it. No pay, no play.
Posted By: bill

Re: well - 12/03/19 06:38 PM

You could charge $5 per year on the first ad a person runs that has to be paid before posting. Then they must pay their 3% or $100 on subsequent submissions or posting privileges are suspended for a length of time and repeat offenders get the boot. That $5 fee would bring in revenue from everyone using the classifieds and get people used to paying through the system that's been established.

Skinny, I'm sending you a PM about something else that could help regarding the payment gateway.

I’m probably guilty of this myself. I have bought a LOT of items from members here and I’m sure I’ve sold a few. I’ll work on getting something paid this week. I’ll make it a round number and hope it helps. I have enjoyed this forum for several years and through both accounts I’ve had. I lost access to my older one (Robert D) when I changed jobs years ago.

I apologize for the oversight and will endeavor to do better in the future. Thanks Skinny

I don't think charging someone to be a membership is a good idea. I like this website but not sure I would pay a monthly or yearly subscription Im sure there are other people who also think that. Now I don't mind donating every now and then. Now $5 for the first add and then 3% after that seems like it would be the best idea, however I do realize I am not a moderator so my opinion does not matter what so ever. Just my $0.02

Re: well - 12/05/19 03:23 PM

Call them out in their thread.
If they claim sold on another site, the member who purchased should call them out for public ridicule for not only selling and not paying but lying to dodge.
Posted By: Skinny

Re: well - 12/06/19 01:59 AM

That is a good point snakebit, but nobody has any time to police the facelists and craigbooks. over 3% on a hundred dollar lawn mower sale ($3.00). This is really a kind of social problem. Its just 3%. I have a few solutions in mind but really the honor system is so much easier on me and everyone else. Many folks have paid more than their 3% to try and make up for the asshats. I may just put a gate up and make folks pay at the door. so that they do not have to risk being dishonest.

Look them up. Payment Logistics (Paygistix is their Gateway)has a A+ rating with the better business bureau and unlike PayPal, has never had an internal data breach. Also, they are who ElkHunter , FurFlyin, Ben2 and several other aldeer members use for their business credit card processing. Plus , the fees are lower and we actually want hunters and gun enthusiasts business.

I'm an independent contractor and can choose to send business to any processing company and Payment Logistics is the one I send 99% of all my clients to because of their customer service and my ability to keep rates low with them. I'm doing this site's processing at cost because I wanted to help and didn't feel right trying to make a profit on something all of us get to enjoy for free but hope to pick up business from other business owners on the site if they aren't happy with their current processor or want to compare rates. Hope this answers your questions about security and , for the record, I have zero access to any cardholder info and can only see the amount of the transaction.

I know there is a pile I did years ago that never got paid up too, but I was always under the impression it was voluntary and I'm not selling stuff because I'm rich lol. May list a .22 here this weekend and I'll be sure to send in the 3% if I sell it thumbup

I do more buying than selling but love the forum.seems folks set decent prices from the getgo and I see a lot of items sold for asking price. I sent $10 a week ago, not much but if those that like and use the forum would do the same it would be significant. However, folks that don’t pay their 3% need to be dealt with.
