Remington 870 20 ga - 08/30/15 12:17 AM

Hope someone can help ! I need to find a 20 gauge barrel for my 870. It is a gun that was given to me when I was 8 years old. It is a 20 gauge that is built on a 12 gauge frame, so I need a "standard" barrel. Would like to find a imp. Cylinder or modified with a ventilated rib. Anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Search for Vintage Sporting. They keep barrels and parts. Located in Huntsville Al.

corsonsbarrels.com has about sixteen of them, from 18" to 28" and from cylinder to full choke.

Thanks guys, I have come to realize that they are somewhat hard to find and pricey. If the gun didn't have sentimental value I would just sit it in my cabinet. I have a friend in Huntsville, I think I'll give him a call and see if he would reach out to Vintage Sporting for me. Thanks, keep me in mind if y'all run across someone who has one. I have looked at Corsons, hoping maybe I can find one before I shell out that cash. Again thanks

Mossberg did a run of Remington 870 barrels a while back. Ran in the $150 range. I am sure you can find one of those.

Corson is mighty proud of some of his barrels, but I've dealt with him and he's reliable. You can get your IC or Mod there for about $275, but as you've probably noticed, those are mostly plain barrels with no vent rib unless the say "vent".

As for Mossberg, I've got an 870 18.5" cylinder choke plain beaded that works great, but I don't think Mossberg has ever made any 870 barrels in any gauge other than 12, let alone a "standard weight" 20.

Just perused the Midwest site, no dice. Wasn't aware of the Mossberg deal, not sure if I like that idea even if they made one. Very frustrating. I'm sure I'll find one, even if I have to shell out the cash at Corsons. Talked to them today, they have a couple, and Colt1917 you are correct, $275-$350 for what I'm looking for. H#£€ , for that I can by an 870 Sportsman ! I just really want to put this gun back into the swing of things. Keep me in mind guys

Is the problem that you don't have any barrel at all, or that the one you have is choked too tight?

If you have a full choke barrel you could either shoot "spreader" loads in it for more open patterns, OR send it off to Briley or somewhere else and have the choke opened up. Light Modified would be a very useful all round choke for that gun if you took that route.

No the problem is that the barrel ring, that slides over the magazine, has developed a hairline crack. Enough to to allow the barrel to slide back to far. When you pump it forward, it won't engage, lock up. Someone suggested to have that repaired, don't trust that. Want to find another barrel.

You might try going straight to the original source and contact Remington. They used to stock a lot of parts for discontinued models.

I did, they referred me to Corson's and some Vintage Firearms sight, they are asking anywhere from $225 to $375. I'm just hoping I can find one before I have shell out that kinda cash. Frustrating to say the least

They do have, along the same price range, thing is, you can find one for a left hand shotgun, I've seen a dozen of them. Decent priced too. Trying to find a 26" - 28" vent rib barrel is tough.
