Keep an eye out on the far side of that landing. There was a biggun crossing there last year and he rubbed a big cedar tree numerous times. Never saw him during daylight though. Good Luck!

Killed a biggun at 7am this morn coming to the can and a grunt call.. Seen 2 doe earlier go in the the same trail he came out following another shooter 6pt, then 3 doe crossed after I had killed the big deer! Just getting rutty in pike county or on my land at least. Seen 20 doe yesterday and not one decent buck in tow...

I didn't see a thing this morning, but I think the active time is gonna me 10-2 today. I gotta go get an estimate to have my truck fixed and then i'll be back in a tree by 2:30. Maybe big boy will move at last light.
while I'm standing on the box, how much luck do yall have on these cold mornings. My expierence around here has been that when it gets cold, these southern AL deer don't like to move till it warms up. Seems 38-48 deg is when I see em move the most.

I chose the plot yesterday afternoon and saw three does and a spike. Nothing, including the spike, even bothered to mess with the does. Here in Barbour County it is like the rut came and left or just hasn't gotten strong. I've yet to see a buck chase a doe and I haven't missed a week of hunting.

Re: LFTT 2/3/15 - 02/03/15 04:18 PM
QDM. I'm seeing the same here. I saw what I would call 1-2 days of rut behavior and it has tapered off since then. I'm on the area I think was rutting latest, but it looks like it has dropped of significantly since this past weekend. Its been a steady but slow season here
Marengo County. Just got in stand, hunting a big greenfield. Hunted here yesterday and saw 12 deer. One was a rack Buck right after dark couldn't tell how big. Hopefully he will come out a little earlier today or I may have to ground check him. Lol

Our fields have been DEAD. I finally got on a good pattern late last week in the woods and was covered up in deer just not the ones I needed to see. Found some real good sign last weekend that looks promising for this weekend.

One of members just sent me this pic. If you look closely you will see a yellow tag in the does ear. That is a first for me. I wonder where she came from....

Re: LFTT 2/3/15 - 02/03/15 10:08 PM
I made it to the club around 11 and climbed up a tree on the edge of a clearcut. Right at noon I saw a doe come out of the pines into a nasty thicket in the cut but it was so thick that I never did see her after that. About that time my boss sends me a message apologizing for interrupting my hunt but he needs me to call him ASAP. I thought to myself "crap I am not getting good enough reception to make a call and a doe is somewhere under me so I don't want to move and scare it off". So I texted him that I was trying to call him but had bad reception. About that time I hear grunting from across the clearcut but it's so thick that I can't see anything. Now I am really anxious because something important is going on at work and I need to get down but somewhere out there is a buck grunting. I decided to grunt at him and then he was getting closer so the bossman was going to have to weight for a minute. He grunted all through the clearcut and I finally picked up movement but it was so thick all I could see was glimpses but he looked like a shooter. Then I saw the doe he was tailing cross a little opening and when he got to that opening I did a quick check to make sure he was a mature deer and let the 270 eat. He ended up being a pretty good 6 point that was 4.5 or 5.5 yrs old. That dude had been fighting something fierce. He had a hole above his right eye and another below his left eye. The top of his head was bleeding. Called the boss after the shot and it was a situation that I couldn't do anything about so it's a good thing that I weighted.

After I shot I saw 2 more does down in the thicket and I jumped another something walking to the deer. It's amazing how those clearcuts can be so thick but at first glance you would think that you could see anything that moves.

QDM I agree. No hard rut. Scrapes aren't being hit but I think the big bucks are trailing does, just not chasing them yet. I hope it changes soon.
