In the stand in Shelby County on some private land. Scrape activity is picking up. Hoping one comes through.

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 08:38 AM

Sitting in front of the TV again today. I have had so many pills in me I haven't been able to post with a clear mind. Left hip feels like it is going to be OK, but the gall bladder they removed is so sore I can barely bend over at the waist. Getting cut from butt to belly has a way of keeping you out of a tree for a while. I begged my son-Bull Man-to go to my stand this am and he stayed here to take care of me. I guarantee he would have seen a mature traveler this morning. It is great to have a son that cares enough to help Dad in his time of need. These types of kids are hard to find.

Good luck and post some pictures. I love seeing what you are hunting.

Kids need to take care of their parents. It's the least they can do to pay for their raising. Im glad yours has it figured out.
Good luck everybody.

I'm sitting still and got a good view... of my monitors at my desk, sitting at work. LOL!

Where I hunt (RSA) it is completely dead - absolutely no buck activity to speak of right now. No regrets being here at work right now either... come January though, and I'll be on 'em!

Moving pretty good in this wind in DeKalb County. I've let a 6 and pretty good 15" 8pt walk. About to have to head to the house and get some sleep. Gotta work tonight.

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 11:32 AM

It's been raining pretty good on us for the last 30-40 minutes. Letting up some now so I'm hoping one will slip across the power line or out into the food plot

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 11:34 AM

Thanks gotcha1. I love that lil fart more than words can every say. He will only get to hunt 1 more time after today and he wants to see a deer so bad. He actually does pretty good sitting in the stand for a 6 yo.

LFTAB( Live from the airport bar) flying home to Wisconsin for the week. Hoping the buck I encountered the last 2 days survives the week til I get back and I don't miss too much action, they are moving midday now and responding to grunts and rattles. Things should be HOT this week in Shelby county. But I won't get a chance til next Tuesday

You're going to way better buck country than anywhere in Bama, you should hunt there.

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 02:00 PM

It's bow only right now, 6 weeks post rut and only public land to hunt. Plus non resident license $160 plus flying the bow up. I may reach out to a local property owner and see for the future. My parents are a few houses down from a state park with no hunting and across the road one of the highest income per capita villages in the country that is farmland with private drives down to the lake. Seen plenty of 140 class and larger over the years run through my parents back yard before feeding deer became a major no-no due to chronic wasting disease, but the rich folk have brought in the sharp shooters to manage the herd. Though they don't mess with the turkey's.

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 03:30 PM

Just settled in to a shooting house. Light rain falling, BIL and nephew on other side of property (they live in VA so we don't get to hunt together much ). Life is good fellas. Deer or no deer its a great afternoon to be in a shooting house

Sitting on a gas line this afternoon that runs through a cutover. Rain has stopped and I hope the deer decide to move before dark.

On another section of property this afternoon watching a clear cut/power line. Loggers are working so who knows what will happen. Been dead since we got here at 230

Re: LFTT 12/22 - 12/22/14 05:23 PM

Ok so let me ask a question. I've been in this club 2 yrs now and the timber has been thinned or clear cut 4x. I'm not seeing many deer and its a crying shame that I can't get my kids a shot or sighting of a deer. Had a conversation with another member that is frustrated also. Just doesn't seem like there's many deer here, tracks everywhere. In my old (no longer in existence) we saw deer more consistently. Just wondering if it's time to start looking else where or if it's just as bad where you all are hunting. Rant over

Nocturnal deer are hard to hunt. Find somewhere with less pressure.

That particular spot is sandy but most of the place is very rocky and not so good.
