Looks like an infection maybe or possibly a tumor.... Maybe she needed a root canal...

Heck of a wad of skoal that nanny was packin!

Seriously though it's probably a tumor or swelling from an injury that hasn't fully healed. I would think that has no bearing on the meat being bad. So if it were me I wouldn't worry unless there's something really crazy going on inside the deer that you haven't seen yet.

That's a squeer...it's a cross between a deer and a squirrel. She's just stashing corn for the winter.

I gutted her last night meat looked great nuthing out of the normal. There was whole corn in her stomach not pieces. Just to add shot on green field not under corn smile

Arterial worms. Elaeophora schneideri

Google it for pictures.

Did you cut the lumps open? They should have been impactions of food material if you did.

Lump jaw. Caused by a bacteria occurring in corn. Somebody's got some bad corn.

This wasn't bacterial. It was impacted feed. Look up arterial worms in deer.

Some folks may guess at the answers like I often do, but you can take what jlccoffee says to the bank. That's a fact.

"Arterial worms, Elaeophora scheideri, parasitize wild ruminants and are usually associated with facial swelling due to food impactions and occasionally cause damage to teeth or jaw bones. High worm loads result in reduced blood flow to the face which causes facial paralysis. This paralysis will cause food to collect in the jaw area.

The adult nematode typically resides in the carotid arteries of the host where females produce larvae which lodge in the capillaries of the skin on the head. The larvae are ingested by horseflies taking a blood meal, where they continue to develop and are then transmitted back to a deer where they migrate to the brain and then back to the carotid arteries."

As Fur indicated, Mr. Coffee is dead on correct.
