How Far - 11/25/14 07:00 PM
Just curious as to how far you drive to your club.I drive 2 hours one way hunt all day drive 2 hours back. no where to stay.makes for a long day especially before time change get home bout 10:30. Sometimes I think I'm crazy for doing this. lot of gas money during the course of a season. Surely I'm not the only one that does this.
There's no way I could ever justify that

Re: How Far - 11/25/14 07:07 PM
I have one club that's 4 hours away in Henry county that I've hunted with my dad for over 20 years. My wife and I drive down to Dothan and stay with my folks or in-laws. It's just under an hour from either of those houses to the gate.
My new lease is about an hr and 20 mins from the house. I drive there and come back each time. There's no water or power or I'd buy and drag a camper there. The club president has a camper there with a generator, but still no water besides our filled water tank.
Bout 6-8 miles for me but I'm use to hunting. 1-1 1/2 away.
I use to make a 2 hour drive, now my club is 30 minutes from my house.. way better
I can throw a rock and hit the sign out box surrounded by our 3000 acre club
I can get off of the toilet at home and be sitting down in a stand in under 20 minutes.

25 minutes and after driving 2 hours for 20 years it's the best. Sleep in my own bed every night and I get to hunt a lot more now.

15 minutes to a Cahaba River. 1 hour to 100 acre lease in Carrollton and 1 1/2 hour to a few acres at my parents.
10 minutes here for the club and five minutes for public land or another 5 minutes when they have the hunts for hollins

Re: How Far - 11/25/14 10:18 PM
Some of y'all make me want to puke.just kidding I'm glad some can walk out there door and be hunting. Knew some had to be close as much as they post about being in a stand all the time. Mteague I hunt in southwest Lamar county I've considered finding something closer but it would be hardpressed for me to find a club with the amount of land with as few members and the number of deer we have for the price I pay and knowing that I would have to start learning a new place, pattering the deer so on as to when you join a new club

275 miles 4.5hrs
I do the 2 hour drive each way every time I hunt. This is my 5th year doing that and it does get exhausting but I kind of like the feeling of getting away from the house. When my kids get older I will probably buy a camper.

Sometimes I hunt in the back yard and some times i drive to FinL's property about 15 min away. Public land is between 20-45 mins from the house.
Our lease is about a 17 min drive.
Hunt rite behind my house, takes me longer to get dressed than it does for me to get in the woods. My other place is 4 miles away. And im very thankful

1.5 hours each way. Makes for a really early morning sometimes.
Those of you who live very near areas of the state with decent hunting are lucky! Someone break out a tiny violin for me!

2.5 hours to my camp then I'm only 4 miles away from hunting property..When I had my small lease in Clarke I used to do the same thing..I would leave at 12:00 drive an 1 1/2 just to hunt that afternoon & then drive back home..Then I got me a little camper & quit all that mess..

I did the 2.5 hour one way drive to the black belt for a few years before my son was born. Great deer hunting. But, after he was born, I decided that being a father was more important than any deer would ever be, so I joined a club here by the house with a lot smaller bucks. Zero regrets.

On my land, i walk out the door and takes me 5 minutes to get to a stand. Club is 1 hour drive, and i camp, when i go there.
depending on which public land spot, could be a 30 min to a 1 hr drive and at least 30 min to 1 hr walk from there.

Re: How Far - 11/26/14 11:42 AM
I can walk out my front door & be in a stand in 5 minutes. Farthest deer property is 30 minutes. Spend a lot of weekends at duck camp which is 4+ hours away.

Re: How Far - 11/26/14 01:02 PM
35 min which is about my limit. I have two young kids and travel 3 days a week for work. It's not worth missing family time to hunt better ground so I do the best with what I can find around here.
We just got this lease last year and I looked at 20+ properties before I settled on the one that I thought would produce the best with some effort.
