Just curious if any other part of Lamar is about the same.trying to plan vac. Time thanks for any input god bless

There are no deer in Lamar Co...

Re: Lamar county - 10/23/14 04:11 PM

With respect to mmusso I must disagree. There is one and only one deer in Lamar Co. It's a single doe who makes it a point to come into your hunting area two or three times a day, spending about 15-20 minutes each time, and stays about 60-70 yards away to annoy the crap out of you.

I've hunted south Lamar since the 70's. I feel the best time to hunt is Dec 12th thru 1st week Jan. After that it seems they disappear. I have hunted Kingville and up in Vernon area also but mostly around Kennedy.

Shacks for processor

Chops is good, although he's gone up on his prices. Never tried Hunter's Gold but I went by and talked to him. He has a pretty nice outfit there.

We've not seen but a couple of deer between my hunting partner and me. No bucks at all. Not as many on camera this year either for some reason. Hopefully all of that will change soon.

If by chance you kill the one deer take it to Chops. He does a good job.

Ron Betandorf in Beaverton has a great set up get your deer processed and leave the antlers for mounting he is one of the best in the business . As far as rut we see it in 3 phases usually with the first week of December starting the rut and then it hits around 10-11th of January and the last week to me is when you kill big boy that's when I have killed 2 of my personal best .

Hay blessed where in Beaverton is this processor.I turn on 49 in Beaverton would be nice to have a place to drop one off on the way home for those late saterday afternoon kills.we to kill some good bucks in late January but as far as the doging the crap out of does its usually around Christmas then we go bout the first 2 weeks of January without seeing hardly anything. Then like as you said see a few last couple weeks.
