Swamp White Oak Worms - 09/29/14 06:50 PM

Well I went and checked the nuts the other day and found that there were 2 out of 20+ swamp chestnut oaks that actually had acorns. Every single one of the trees had been nearly defoliated by something. Anybody knows what causes this???? Its right close to the delta so I suspect all the swamp white oaks in there look about the same.

I asked this same question a few weeks ago and got no answer.

Are there big bundles of webs in the tree? If so, tent caterpillars.

Did you transplant the Swamp White Oaks?

Could be oak worms if the leaves are skeletonized that's the problem.

Didn't look at the pic either tent caterpillars or oak worms.

Naw there's no web up in the canopy. Just skeletonized leaves. All acorns in that area are dropping green.....due to the recent dry weather I guess. The deer are tearing em up though.

Some of those oaks have been there since the war of northern aggression.

Yes they are swamp chestnut oaks. I called them that too in the post just so nobody would try to correct me. I just call em swamp white oaks.
