drop tine buck. - 08/27/14 07:40 PM
My buddy at work has had multiple pics of a nice 8pt with about what appeared to be a perfect 8-10in drop tine on his left side. Looks like what would be someone's dream buck. I told him that he needed to say a prayer every night that he didnt break that club off because it was so big. Well he updated me with a pic this morning that the drop tine was now gone. I guess thats how it goes. He's prob a low 130's and is a shooter by most people standards. Do you let him walk this year with hopes he will have that drop again next year? I told him to smoke him.

If he's just a low 130s" 5x5 and/or less than 4.5 YO , he gets a pass this year from me.
OOOPs my bad, BPS said it was an 8pt, I still won't shoot at 130" and/or less than 4yo.

Without putting out to much info, as he knows not about this post. He had never hunted until last year. Joker killed 5 deer last year. All with a bow. He had another good one on camera last year. He shot it and couldnt find it. So at this point he hasnt killed a really nice one. Having killed bigger deer with a rifle, I still havent killed a signature deer with a bow and I would gladly smoke him.

what if he killed the deer, and took a pre-season pic to the taxidermist for replication of the drop?

I'm sure a tax could do something like that. I wouldnt ever do it on anything I killed. I like to keep them as legit as possible when I killed them.
Letting him walk doesnt mean that it will grow back next year. Of course it could grow back on both sides and sure enough be a freak.

I've killed a 130" 8 ptr, believe me, i would shoot another one. They have to be big to score that high with only 8 pts.

No Sht. I agree. A 4yo 8 is also a 5-6yo 8 imo. However the drop is intriguing and deserves a pass for me personally.
