What do you think the most common wind direction during bow season is? I'd say most of the time it's coming out of south west, and north west during a front. Do you hang stands for a certain wind direction you want to hunt? Or do you just hang em where you hang em and pray the wind cooperates. I've never given much thought to it in the past but it seems like a good idea.

If I'm going to hang only one, I'll usually hang it on the eastern side of the area I think the deer will be. However, if I think the deer will be coming from a direction other than from a westerly direction, I'll hang one elsewhere and wait for a favorable wind for that stand. I like to kill them on the approach rather than out in the plot, this is just about a must on a big plot. I have several can't miss places that have more than one stand up. That's the best plan. With the thermals in the mountains ya never know what it's gonna do.

I have one stand on a small plot that is on the East face of the Mt. To look at it one would think a Westerly wind would be perfect. It took me a couple of years to figure out I needed to hunt it on a South wind and kill the deer on the approach, rather than after they get to the plot. Now if I have a South wind, first time I hunt it, something is gonna die.

I always plan for some sort of West wind..... May be NW or SW...but it will be from the West 90% of the time....I also always carry a climber with me in the event I need to move over a tree or two or just change my set up altogether...... If the wind is to bad for the situation..... I do not hunt it..... I'll hunt another location.....

I have stands, all over my club, and all over my property. Most are setup with a N,NW wind in mind, although during bowseason we have some SW. I have a few setups, that an east wind is best.
