Anything is possible, but I hunted butler county several years ago, never saw or heard of any bears,I saw more black coyotes/coydogs there than any where I ever hunted.

I have hunted in several parts of Butler County near Greenville for the last 40 years and have never seen or heard of any bears. Lots of coyotes in recent years though.

Not likely but not impossible. Seems like there was a bear found in tree in Lowndes county around Letohatchee a couple of years ago.

One was also run over in Monroe County if I remember right in recent history and I know one was run over in Covington County near River Falls in the last year or two. They roam a lot, especially the young males....so I don't doubt it is true.

Talk to the local coon hunters. If they have good dogs they will know what's around as far as bears and big cats. It's hard to break a dog off something tey rarely run. I grew up in upper East Tennessee/SW Virginia, they old man that got me into coon hunting took a lot a lot of ridicule in the 80s for saying he treed a bear, now they are very very common around there. The coon hunters will know first about bears and cats. That's is why as a former avid coon hunter, I cannot allow myself to believe big cats are around, a coon dog would have done put one in a tree by now.
