Americus, Ga - 10/23/12 06:26 AM

Hey guys, the company I work for is sending me on a three day hunt near Americus, Ga this weekend. Any of you guys ever hunted close to there? I've never hunted in Georgia, so I would like some opinions. I will be hunting a 3500 acre farm.

Great hunting down around that way. I have some friends with farms down around that way and they are all loaded with big deer. Should be a good hunt for you!

Southwest ga produces very big bucks every year and its a combination of well managed pine plantations and agriculture. Do you happen to know the name of the place?

A kid I played ball with grew up there and his family had a lot of land down there. Ive only ever gone down there to party in the sticks but when ever we were there i would see a lot of deer and sign around his place. Also some gators over there so be careful close to the water

My brother lived in Thomasville, GA about 25 miles N of Tallahassee. Biggest bucks in the south, bar none, are killed right there on those plantations just across the FL line. They keep things quiet but they kill 15-20 every year on those plantations in Thomas County that will rival anything coming out of the midwest or anywhere for that matter. I couldnt believe the pics he would send me every year from over there. Rut is early over there too.

I grew up not far from there. Plenty of agriculture. You will probably be hunting over recently harvested peanuts if I had to guess. You should have a great hunt. Let us know if hunting over bait makes it any easier. Since they passed that law, the land we hunt in Randolph County and Clay County has produced fewer deer than it did when baiting was illegal.

Quail plantation deer - can't beat them in the southeast!
