Not more in Jackson, we have only one full time . We are one of the biggest counties area wise and have hunters and fishermen from all over NA and the tri-state area but only one enforcement officer. Our officers always handled way more calls than officers other counties in the area . Most of the hunters and fishermen from other NE counties are here! slap Thanks Chuck.

It seems insane to me that something like the baiting permit can be passed and no one have a clue where the money goes. Just the whole concept of it happening that way seems as ass backwards as you could get

they MAY of filled some vacancies but they have not added any positions...and I know of several vacancies.

Yeah and the wardens still have to check for illegal baiting . So it didn't free up time for them to do other enforcement . Been better to have make all baiting legal .

But I guess we gotta line sone pockets

I agree, hell with this halfway crap. Make baiting legal w/o restrictions or make it illegal.

I knew when they talking about this is just BS.

Just like game check .

Beast is always hungry never feed it enough and some just wanna give it more

A GW told me that the game check $ has helped them. I believe in my area they have been able to fill a position or 2 that has been vacant. He also said it allowed them to increase the pay ceiling for certain positions and provide some raises that in the past have been missed due to insufficient funding.

It's a shame when you think about the money the state squanders but they can't support the Game &Fish with proper funds

I don't understand how game check raises funds it takes funds to enforce , unless it's thru fines . That would have nothing to do with where the money for baiting permits are going .

I haven't read any where wardens were not being hired because of funding . Maybe I mises it . Would seem like the ones needed to fill the spots would be budgeted in .

Maybe we strarting to have more Chiefs than Indians in the department

Re: Game Wardens - 05/22/23 10:06 PM

What he has told me is that their funding is based solely on license sales and fines. They get no money from the general fund, unlike the water patrol and troopers (probably more I just don't know them all). He has said they are generating more funds from the baiting permits than they did from fines. I can't say I know exactly how their budget handles filling positions. He has told me they have positions that have not been filled for a while now and that just last year they were able to increase pay ceilings with the extra money. I would have to ask him again if the positions were vacant due to funding or lack of candidates, I thought it was lack of funding.

That's how Michigan was. They did put a poundage limit on it after years of people literally dumping tons of sugar beets, apples, corn, and carrots.
One of the easiest places to kill a deer I ever hunted. Find bait, follow trails, hunt intersections...

Understandable, but if (I don't know this for sure but if) you have not been able to give your work force raises especially with the recent inflation I could see the value in trying to keep them happy, so you don't end up with more vacancies. Finding any decent help is pretty hard right now, I would bet there is not a line of guys wanting to work the hours and in the conditions a GW has to work.

I always laughed at how many wardens they had at WMA hunts when everybody knows all the sketchy stuff happens on private land behind locked gates.

If Al game game commission employees are anything like Fl game commission employees, that top out is pretty much a pipe dream. Most stay pretty close to the bottom end of salary range.

You may be right . I don't see their checks . But the ones I do know of seems to be pretty good .

Theres one that's lives close to me that has bought up hundreds of
acres of land and you don't do that by having had a low income . Others I know seems to living a pretty good life style . But that may mean nothing .

I'm not knocking what they make so don't take it that way . Buy if they had more wardens their work load would be less and the laws could better enforced

Re: Game Wardens - 05/24/23 06:23 PM

The few wardens I know, here, have some sort of side gig to supplement their incomes.

Re: Game Wardens - 05/24/23 09:16 PM

Game check only matters if you take a deer to a processor. If you kill it and take it home, you only need it if you get caught. Otherwise, you don't.

Still say its dumb you can only kill 3 bucks, but can kill 118 doe's.
