Hanging a deer in this weather ?

I just popped a fat slick head. In an hour I’m going to gut her. If I leave it hanging, go hunt the evening and get her to processors around 7 tonight, meat gonna be alright? 60 degrees now, high is 63.

Id get a cooler.

It’ll prob be ok but I’d quarter her n throw her in a cooler if it were me…

If it’s warmer than 45, mines going on ice.

Nope. But, I wouldnt ever wait to gut a deer either. I cool mine as fast as possible.

Why are you gutting it? Quarter it up and put in a cooler. I like to get mine taken care of within about an hour of killing it, regardless of temp.

It is a shame to kill one and then throw away spoiled meat.

Gut it.....lay on side and go get 4 or 5 Bags of ice and put in Cavity....You'll be fine until after evenings hunt.

I'd go get her and get them guts asap. At the least I would throw a bag or 2 of ice in the cavity to sorta keep her cool as you can

It's a mandatory game check day on my WMA can I gut the animal first or do I need to bring the intact beast to game check? Anyone know for sure? I am wondering the same thing the OP is?

Pretty sure it’s fine to gut and I would , it used to be anyway . I haven’t hunted a wma in 6 or 7 years .

Yep! Gut, leave evidence of sex and preserve the meat!

When we had to leave deer over night in warmer weather we would gut the deer, stuff the cavity with ice bags. then wrap the deer in a tarp with ice bags on each side of the deer.

You could have had it in a cooler by the time you did all that. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Gut fast, quarter fast, on ice in cooler fast. Problem solved.

Nothing to worry about. Sometimes lots of the meat that you get back from the processor doesn’t even come from your deer.

If you are going to gut and hang a deer anyways, ten more minutes of work could have it skinned, quartered, and on ice. I dont get the point in stopping once you have made it this far.
