Best 7mm08 hunting round?? - 01/22/22 04:54 PM

Just bought my first 7mm08. In you guys’ experience, what’s the best hunting round? The ammo is pretty scarce so I just gathered what I could. Haven’t shot it yet. I got a box of Barnes 120 grain with the gun. I found a box of hornady whitetail interlock 139 grain and a box of Winchester power point 140 grain. I realize the Barnes are probably the best bullet, but is the 120 grain enough? Seems a little light. Any help would be appreciated.

I like the Barnes TTSX 120 grain bullets. I hand load them.

140 grain Partition and Accubond

120 grain NBT is amazing, as well.

At 7'08 speeds, most all hunting bullets should perform well. Shoot what your gun likes.

140 grain NP works best for me. Difficult to find right now.

We’ve shot American whitetail 139 interlocks with good success.

My browning loves the federal premium 140 nosler. She will put them holes inside of holes. Always had good luck with deer with it and it’s been effective.

Either the Federal premium 140gr. Nosler ballistic tips or the Nosler 140gr. Nosler ballistic tips. Every youth model I have shoots them better than anything else I have tried and they are deadly on deer.

Have killed some great bucks; including my PB, with Barnes VorTX 120TTSX. NOT to light. If your gun likes it; go hunting

I’ve been very impressed with them. Crap they normally knock a wad of hair off the exit side when Stephen hits them right.

Killed them with 120 reduced recoil and 140 core lokt(have seen very few available over the last two years).
Last three shot with 140 nosler Accubond. These have been deadly and accurate (very hard to find).
Found plenty of 150 Norma and ELDX, but have not shot.
Everyone says to go 20gr below your normal weight with the Barnes, so that 120 should be perfect.

Mine likes 140 Winchester supreme and a nice load of h414 under a 120 NBT. It's submoa out of my Ruger carbine, and it's death to a deer.

140 gr Barnes TTSX over IMR 4064 if you hand load. Deadly.

I have a short video of the interlock in action if anyone would care to post it

All of my guns of every caliber shoot Winchester deer season xp very well. I buy a box every time I see them.

I’m using the 139 interlocks this year and like most bullets, it kills them dead. I don’t have problems with bullets though, never have. Remington ammo is the only ammo I won’t use.

Federal Fusion 140 grain very good results if you can find them.

I reload for Pam’s Browning A-Bolt 7mm08
139 gn SST
39.2 gn of Varget powder

I make sure the cases are trimmed correctly and OAL
Is the same.

If she does her part the combination will shoot
1/2 “ MOA.

She shoots them behind the shoulder for a enter/exit hole.
Probably only lost 2 out of the last 50, she admitted to a rushed/bad shot.
When you get to the bottom of it all, arrows, slugs, bullets, placed in the right place, will harvest an animal.

My buddy’s wife shot a doe yesterday evening with 120 grain Barnes ttsx it dropped in its tracks but when he got up there to load it up he realized there was a blood trail leading off the hill and there laid another doe! Bullet passed through the first and was just up under the skin on the opposite side of second one! Pretty impressed with the round needlessly to say!

I shoot 139 grain Barnes LRX over 49 grains of Ramshot Big Game in mine but if I was using factory ammunition it would be either 120’or 140 TTSX. Whichever the rifle liked best. Light for caliber is just fine and even better than fine when they retain 95% of their weight after impact.

I'm shooting the Sierra 120 pro hunter in my extreme weather 7mm-08 over 39.5 grains of IMR4064. Haven't got to shoot anything with them yet but hoping they will perform well.
