Had an incredible weekend. Guest and I killed a couple does and I lucked up with the biggest deer of my life. I’m thinking high 130’s and possibly 140. Will upload a few photos and a story this afternoon or in the morning. Southwood nice to meet you and glad y’all got a good one too!

It was a pleasure to meet y’all and congrats again on a STUD of a buck. Cedar creek was awesome even with the warm weather we had. I let a borderline buck walk on Saturday morning and my guest let one walk that in hindsight he should’ve shot on Friday morning. This morning at a little past 8am my buddy spotted 3 bucks walking together in a cutover and shot the biggest one. 4 year old, 142lbs, 16” spread and 21” beams.

Something to add about cedar creek and these SOA hunts. The state does a fantastic job communicating and setting the hunts up. They send out a ton of information and I honestly learned a lot about aging deer while preparing for the hunt. Bucks have to have a 16” inside spread or 18” main beam and I’ve learned that takes a really good deer to meet those requirements.

Great bucks! Congrats guys! Aldeer crew put the hurt on some bucks.

Between Cedar Creek and Thigpen, I’m thinking the state is going to have another question on their app next year...”Are you a member of aldeer?” 😂

FYI, if you show up to the skinning rack with a 2 year old 6 point and a button buck that you’ve already cut the nuts off to try and hide it....

the GW will confiscate your deer
Your 4 day hunt will be over
You will get a ticket

😂🍿

was it an obvious young buck or could you see where a mistake was made?
Posted By: Mbrock

Re: Cedar Creek This Week - 12/07/21 01:37 AM

MC you can’t mistake many 2 year olds for a 16” inside or 18” beam buck. Virtually all 2 year olds are protected under that rule. Very very few exceptions. Heck, most 3 year olds are too lol. Would be hard to make that mistake.

Crap when we went to Uchee there was a pic of one that was a 13 point that didn’t meet either criteria. Gw said he couldn’t blame the guy hot shooting him.

I met the hunter who shot that buck. Said he wasn’t allowed to register for another SOA hunt for a year or so. He didn’t care. The buck was amazing.

Me and someone would be having a conversation assuming the buck aged 4+. The rules are to protect young bucks. We shouldn’t be punishing hunters when the buck meets the AGE criteria they are ultimately after.

Guy last year at Portland landing killed a really pretty 10pt the first afternoon. The biologist literally showed him pictures where it had been coming to a clover patch every afternoon and told him to go kill it. Probably a 130” deer. It took some fudging with that tape measure to make one main beam 18&1/4”.
