Track number 2 was a high shoulder shot with a crossbow. Jumped the deer about 500 yards into the track. The dogs came back to me after running it 1.75 miles. I'm sure he'll live to see another day.

Track number 3 was for Jono 23 buddy in New Hope. Live deer that the dogs chased around 1/2 a mile and bayed. Track number 4 was for a buddy. Never could catch up to her

Track number 5
The young man accidentally shot through the ground blind and pretty sure the swacker broadhead opened at that point. Hit the deer very low as you can see in the pic. Started tracking at 13hrs and jumped him about 500 yards away. The dogs ran him and the briars eventually opened him up. He crossed some people's yard so we had to get permission. They didn't believe us till I showed them a speck of blood about 20 yards from the porch. We found him about 200 yards dead in a briar patch

Track number 6 was a doe in Athens. She was shot at 8 this morning. We started tracking her at 3 and by 3:15 she was bayed in a creek 1/8th of a mile away. We were able to dispatch her and end it.

That was the entrance. The arrow stayed in him. It hit the liver and sliced his stomach. I'm guess the arrow glanced off the bone and went in. What it looked like to me anyway

That's two happy dogs. It's amazing to see how much they enjoy working to please the feller that feeds them. I like my Boykin but you can't beat a good cur dog in my opinion but I am partial to the Original Mt Curs. How do they line up to the German Shepards you grew up with?

I never tracked with German Sheppards but the ones I grew up were natural herding dogs and very aggressive guard dogs. They didn't play around with anyone up to no good. Muzz is part black mouth curr and part redbone. He's probably my once in a lifetime dog. Wish I had 10 more exactly like him. My other dog in the picture is a Catahoula. I got her from a retired game warden in Montana. He promised me she'd be the best dog I've ever had. She is right with Muzz, I couldn't ask for anything else out of her for such a young dog.

Re: Dixieland Deer Tracking - 11/11/21 05:07 AM

Most of the OMC's are very protective and don't play with strangers (human or other dogs) on the place when it comes to protecting kids and some adults. I was curious if you saw some of the same with the catahoula and black mouth. My brother has a German Shepard mix pup that comes from a cow dog line and it reminds me of the OMC's when it comes to protecting the house. It's a little more protective of the area than our curs but they were more straight forward attitude when a dog or stranger got around kids. The GS acts more by positioning itself vs straight up that's as far as you need to come attitude and grit.

Funny you say that but neither of my OMC’s have a mean bone in their body. My blackmouth Ids little more aggressive but not by much.

Well believe it or not the fellers neighbors shot the deer with a rifle. It crossed to his side and he tried to shoot her moving with a bow when he saw how bad hurt she was. After finding the deer he had also over compensated for her walking/running and hit her in the brisket. The neighbors told him if we found her that he could just keep her for the trouble. It all worked out atleast.

Nice 8pt in Anniston today. Shot quartered away hard with a bow. Arrow came out of his brisket. They waited about an hour to look for him. They jumped him around 300 yards in. We found him 1/4 of a mile away dead. Hit a artery going to his heart but missed everything else.

Tracked this deer for 4 hours last night before we finally caught up to him. I shot him and he dove off in some water and sunk like a rock. We tried swimming after him last night but got way to cold. The young man went back and got him this morning. It was a low leg shot. Deer lost alot of blood and was weak

It was a big swamp with a creek. The 13 year old went in after him a couple times. We ended up waist deep in water crossing a creek several times. About drowned out a side by side also.

Re: Dixieland Deer Tracking - 01/22/22 03:59 AM

Had the craziest track I've ever had today. Over 24hr gut shot we thought. Muzz went way to far without finding a bed for it to be normal. Ended up walking around for over 2hrs watching Muzz work through this track. Found one spot the ground was tore up from what looked like him moving around trying to get comfortable but no blood. We went way past that and finally decided to do a restart. Tried that twice and came up empty nothing at all. Decided to go back to the first place Muzz took us. We worked at that for over another hour slowly circling back from where we parked the truck. Eventually the guy I was tracking for had enough and thought maybe the deer was alive and well so we called it. Start walking to the truck and Muzz takes off opening like a bat outta hell. A doe jumps up and takes off then the buck stands up and takes off. We pop him again he ran about 50 yards and piled up dead. The shot high in the shoulder was the 2nd shot. I have no idea how this deer was still alive and chasing doe's but he was
