Uchee Creek

Uchee Creek - 09/13/21 03:06 AM

I was selected to hunt Uchee Creek 1/20-1/23. What should I expect? Is there anything I should focus on when I go to the designated days to scout? TIA.

Re: Uchee Creek - 09/13/21 04:39 AM

I killed a big 7 there on the week on 1/23 two years ago…had another stud cross a road and I couldn’t shoot due to 1 buck a hunt. Didn’t see many deer at all but we grunter and rattled that big 7 in as the only field on our section smelled like pure rutting buck. Great operation just wish they kept it up better like Fred T was kept up.

I went late Jan 2019 unit 7 I believe. You are going to see alot of deer. Most of the rutting activity was over when I went but it is a target rich environment

I'm going the same dates as a guest. Was selected as hunter for Unit 8 last season for the February hunt. Neither me or my guest ever saw any shooter bucks and deer movement was kinda slow, but there were a couple killed that weekend. I'm hoping there will be a little more action roughly 2 weeks earlier.

What’s a good bearing to figure out exactly where the property is?

I used the map on outdooralabama to get an idea and found it on Google maps/onX. If you use this address, it should be just north of it.

5485 Sandfort Rd
Seale, AL 36875

There is a fine quick stop in Seale with the best fried chicken livers I’ve ever had. “White Stop” I believe it’s called.

Hopefully the lady with the mustache is still cooking them up. If so, they’ll be 👌.

I went as an alternate and my hunter shot a doe in the middle of an 200 acre cutover on the first afternoon that all the deer in our unit bedded in. Pretty much ruined our hunt from that point forward. But I’m not still upset about it.

I have drawn unit 7 for October 28. I was in a hunting club just down the road 20 years ago. Anyone have any info on this property?

I also I am looking for somewhere to stay due to me being 3.5 hours away. Any recommendations(Lakepoint State Park, Uchee Creek campground or hotel)?

I like staying in Opelika for Uchee creek. If you get a room at the laquinta it’s only about a 35min drive plus they have a bar in the lobby.

Well in my defense, I was on a hunt with my wife when we stayed there and had to make sure she was comfy lol

I like the way it looks too. We will see how it plays out. Apparently not many people have hunted this unit or they don’t want to talk about it.

When I was first looking at the map I immediately marked that finger coming out of that pasture to the middle of unit 2. I’d imagine that’s some sort of natural funnel.

Appreciate the offer. The only thing I’ve been told about 11 so far is focus on the clear-cuts but I’m not sure how that would work out for bow hunting.

Find trails coming in and out of them and oaks on the edges.

Re: Uchee Creek - 11/17/21 12:06 PM

Back at it again. Sitting hardwood ridge about 200yds from creek. Pine transition area about 50yds from me. Lots of old and new rubs in here. Few acorns here n there

Re: Uchee Creek - 11/17/21 09:34 PM

Back at it in Unit 4, in a finger about 50yds wide that juts into the planted pines about 350yds. About 50 from the point hitting pines. Bedding on 3 sides. couple white oaks by me also.
