AKA deer vetch. Anyone ever planted it? What was your experience with it? Supposed to be good in wet areas which is what I need,

I've been planting it every year for 25 year's. I.thinks it's the best summer plot for deer. I plant it in blackbelt soil, not really wet, but properly fertilized and limed. It's slow to get started, but provides a lot of forage July until frost kills it.

Thanks. This will be in the Black Belt also. Do you soil test or what fertilizer/rate do you apply?

Yes, I soil test. Usually a ton of lime per acre every 3 years or so. 150 # of 0-20-20 per acre per year.

Do the deer hammer it like peas or beans?

It took a couple of years for them to get use to it. After that they hammer it. It will branch and continue to put out leaves. It handles heavy deer pressure much better than peas and beans. I can't grow them where I plant vetch, because of the heavy deer pressure.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll add that to my mix.
