Video of shot - 11/29/20 01:28 PM

Last season we shot all but one deer from the ground so I figured this year I'd try to tote an old video camera with me. I'm not trying to do Catman-style hunting videos, but I figured it would be good to review to see how a deer reacted to a shot, where it last ran out of view, etc. Yesterday I had the chance to hunt either sex on public and was able to put meat in the freezer. I had been up since 2am and sat the entire day. Apparently I read the "target panic/excitement" thread too many times because that's the first thing that came to mind when these stepped out. I certainly wasn't as calm as I typically am with a rifle, but was able to make a good shot. At first I thought I shot low and kicked up a bunch of dirt, but that wasn't the case... She went about 30 yards and it was very easy getting her out. After looking at the video on a larger screen, I should have shot the last doe coming up the hill, but live and learn I suppose.

That's a heck of a trail they are on.

Yep, I remember those words of wisdom after the fact. I’m not used to see doe trains. I typically seeing a train car that derailed and is tumbling down the mountain.

It’s really nerve racking when the train has 8 to 12 cars. πŸ˜†

It's an old Canon VIXIA HF M300 that is pushing 10 years old if not older. It certainly doesn't do well in low light, but those does were moving fairly early on Saturday.
