Seen it several times. I have cut and removed lots of old barbwire fence, right here on my place, for that reason.
Many years ago there was several cross fences, on this place, and now it's just a wad of old wire in the woods.
I cut it off and roll it up every time I find another piece of it.

Dang, I hate that. I'm surprised hes not half eaten by yotes yet.

We cut one out of a fence down toward hurtsboro a few yrs ago he was so tired he couldnt even fight with us got a bottle of water and gave him sum and he finally staggered off

Found one dead in hog wire fence years ago. He had somehow gotten his hind legs down through the wire from top down and couldn't get out. Hate for them to go that way. Hog wire seems to be the worst. People who can afford it are starting to use hog wire again. Now it is to keep the hogs out of crops and farm land.

I had a decent buck i found in my fence at my house this week. His back leg got stuck in the fence and he broke his leg/hip trying to free himself. i live in a subdivision and was absolutely shocked to see him. My dog led me to him. He was still alive but had been there a few days i think. I cut the wire and freed him but he couldnt run. The game warden did a great job of coming by and shooting him and hauling him off. It was unreal to see a deer where he ended up.

There is some of it laying on the ground too. It looks like some sort of secretion.

Yeah when I pulled up and he looked like he was bedded down with no ground or anything tore up I thought he was alive until I saw his nose. There is a wire under his chin and I bet when he laid down it choked him out

Eyes look good from the pic but its hard to tell. Depending on weather and what not, i would have probably been walking out of the woods with some easy meat. Hate to see em go to waste like that.

No he had a little stink to him when I was dragging him and he honestly seemed a little swollen

I would bet he died quickly. The leaves under him aren't even slightly disturbed. He likely pressed his neck downward to free his antler until he passed out. Then his limp body weight kept the pressure on his neck and he died from suffocation. That is my official autopsy report.
