LFFT 1/17/20 - 01/17/20 12:31 PM

Settled in a tree way up on a mtn in Jackson County waiting on bambi's grandpappy. Found a few scrapes on the way in, maybe he'll come freshen them this morning. Good luck and be safe.

Must have picked a good tree had 3 does come and browse around 30 yards from me for 30 mins. One got to 10 steps. They were alone. No bucks with any of them, strange.

Watching a 3 fingered food plot surrounded by natural growth pine and hardwood. So thick you cant walk through it. Flooded river bottom behind it. Thought the high water might push some deer out of the swamp and up toward this higher ground. Haven't seen a deer yet.

Re: LFFT 1/17/20 - 01/18/20 01:37 AM

Had 22 on a greenfield this evening 2 pretty good bucks, 4-5 smaller bucks and the rest does and yearlings . All bucks acted a little goofy fighting and running but in the end they all just ended up with their face buried in a corn pile . There wasn’t any urgency in the chasing just like they were doing it just because .

Yea we were in lower PRV. Not really sure about the rut, this is only the 3rd time I've hunted this place. Saw plenty of fresh rubs and a few scrapes but no deer today. Intel tells me that they were chasing hard on a neighboring club 3 weeks ago.

Re: LFFT 1/17/20 - 01/21/20 07:42 PM

Sorry it took me 4 days to post but I did not have enough service to upload to imgur. It’s 4 of us hunting 300 acres there is a creek that runs through out property and separates it so we have 100 acres on the other side of the creek. We are usually able to walk across or at least get a 4 wheeler across the creek but have been unable to do that since November because of all the rain. We decided that this weekend we where going to bring a John boat and cross the creek and hunt. So we hopped in the boat and crossed 2 people at a time. I decided to hunt the stand the furthest away on the back side of the property. It’s a flat spot where 3 ridges end. I got in the stand at about 245 at 450 2 does come down through the bottom and feed about 45 yards in front of me. About 10 minutes later big boy is on the ridge to my right about 80 yards away. He’s looking at the does. I quickly grabbed my .270 and shot. I had to shoot left handed which that is the first time I have ever shot a rifle left handed. He falls and then gets up and runs about 20 yards and falls again. I climbed down and went over to him, he was still kicking so I put another bullet in him with my pistol to finish him off. (Guess I shouldn’t have climbed down so fast but I was excited. ) I was enjoying the moment. I finally put my hands on him. I was really excited and the I realized it was about a 600 yard walk from the boat to where I was at. Luckily, we had recently purchased a JET sled and had brought it with us across the creek. We loaded the deer up and started hauling I carried the deer most of the way but luckily I hunt with a bunch of good people who were willing to help drag. We finally got back to the John boat and pulled the deer across the creek on the jet sled behind the boat. We then hooked up the jet sled to the four wheeler and took the deer back to camp. I got it gutted packed down with ice and then enjoyed an awesome steak dinner that one of the guys cooked. Had a few beers that night and ended up sleeping in the next morning until about 7:30 and took the deer to the processor.
