Baiting - 09/06/19 09:20 PM

Just this and was like wth. If a youth that doesn't even have to have a license is participating in the hunt in any way they have to have the bait privilege permit. Are u kidding me.nothing but a pure joke imo

Its not a pure joke. Its the purest form of money grubbing ive seen displayed by our govt yet. Even a 4yr old has to pay, we now tax the untaxable.

I can’t wait to see a toddler get a ticket and the repercussions that follow. Someone will undoubtably get slapped hard.
I’d also like to know the name of the GW that’d be such a horses arse to write a kid a ticket

if you don't think there is one out there that will do it, you are sadly mistaken.

Yall just remember...... Conservation Officers are sworn to uphold the law. It is their job to enforce the law. All the ones I know take their job very seriously. That doesn't make this particular situation right but it is the law of the land unfortunately.

Is Game and Fish really this hard up for money, that they have to sell out on their baiting is bad stance to the point they are charging little kids?

Never said there isn’t a GW who wouldn’t do it . Fact is I know one that would do it but then he’s a horses arse all the time anyway

I saw the word “kid” and “spray”

LEO’s love to justify their existence so I’d say buy the permit.

Is it really the law of the land? Does the wording in the Alabama code really say that, or has Chuck and Co . conveniently modified the wording?

I won't go 49er and start on laws V regs.

Re: Baiting - 09/08/19 01:37 PM

Have any of ya'll ever known of a hunter that got a ticket for using a spray attractant? They would have been illegal till this year I think. I think the possibility of a child getting a ticket is extremely low, and if a game warden did write on I think the judge would throw the game warden and the ticket out of court.

Re: Baiting - 09/08/19 02:37 PM

Seems to be safe in every situation it comes back to having the bait permIt. To me the easiest thing to do to avoid all the what if’s is add the cost of the bait permit into the cost of the regular license and make the license all inclusive.

So I was reading in the license purchase section. My son is 6. So do I buy him a license to hunt under supervision, and then tack on the bait priv stamp or whatever its called? Just trying to get a good understanding on all of this.

No license but has to have the bait thingy. Chuckie says there is no excuse for a 6 yo to not be working after school and weekends so they can send the money to the DCNR. They need to pay their own way. Bunch of entitlement program freeloading 6 yo's.

You're saying everyone that gets a ticket is guilty?? If you believe that, 100% no bad tickets written, you sir, do not need to be in the woods with a gun unsupervised!

there is such a thing called common sense, also discretion. One does NOT have to write a ticket for EVERY violation one sees, oath or not. Arresting, thru the juvenile process, a ten year old for not having a "bait permit" is a crock of chitt and any officer that would do that needs firing. And ANYONE saying a seven year old needs to "pay his way" needs a realignment.

I disagree Central, he needs to be in the woods. He needs to take a little kid hunting as a none hunting observer , shoot a buck , of course little feller will want to help drag the buck. Then when sworn to uphold the law GW comes along and writes the "little hunter" a ticket for "assisting " I bet he changes his tune.

That is the way I understand it too. The way I read the release, it said this is what most of the legislator's constituents have wanted, and therefore the legislature voted to pass. So now F&G will support and enforce the law.

I believe DCNR is teasing out details like the need to issue tickets to the elderly or children under 16 because they are run by a horses ass, not because of the way the bill is written. That's some Pontius Pilate stuff right there.

Re: Baiting - 09/12/19 03:03 AM

The "definition of area" thing is still in use so if the feed is placed according to the "definition of area" guidelines, then no bait permit is required. By the way, according to the law, hunting game by aid of bait is still illegal, so if you do not follow the area guidelines and put out bait in plain sight AND you dont have the "bait permit", you will still get a ticket. Most of the officers who worked for me did not want to be doing juvenile charges at all, but I do know some who would do it. One thing is for sure, if a dad put a kid over a pile of bait, just go find the dad cause he will have some under him, too.

So you think, the adult should get a ticket in my scenario? slap I say neither should . If I take my grandson along as a none hunter and I shoot a buck , he can help drag it , if that makes him an outlaw well I guess I'll live with it. The GW who writes him/me/us will live with a judge throwing it out and chewing on his ass. That is if a there's a DA, DA who would let it go to trial .

You ever drive one mile an hour over the speed limit with a child in the car? If you are driving along with a child and he gives directions or tells you a 4 way stop is ahead should he/she get a traffic ticket for "assisting" ? Should the parent ?

My son is 9 and EXEMPT from hunting license. The state has already shown precedence but not requiring youth to buy the WMA ADDITIONAL license to hunt a WMA. I will not purchase a bait license for him. This entire STUPID rule will go away once a kid gets a ticket and the parent takes it to court.

Re: Baiting - 09/13/19 03:00 AM

Cobb corn. Thank me later. It almost glows in the dark and gives you a lighted backdrop to kill deer on.

It is also cheaper than clean shelled corn you put in feeders. Coming from a SC deer hunter where corn has been legal since Columbus came over. Bait stands on Friday night. Kill deer Saturday morning and all weekend. Maybe corn again Mon or Tues for the week day hunters but deer will kick around in the cobbs searching for awhile after most of the corn is gone. Deer also have to work at biting off a mouthful of cobb corn - use this distraction to get the rifle up. A smart doe will try to trick you by doing the head fake if she suspects something on a pressured stand and will quickly get a mouthful of shelled corn and chew it looking around. They can’t do that as easy with Cobb corn. Rinse and repeat each week. If you are hunting a big deer on camera, don’t shoot nuthin, just let em eat, frankly I wouldn’t hunt the stand until the time gets right and I start getting day time pics. He will stand on that corn pile waiting for a doe during the rut if you don’t booger it. Bet

I would not use a feeder no way unless you are willing to invest 5 years in a spot. A lot of bucks are feeder shy for a generation.

Re: Baiting - 09/13/19 10:27 AM

I agree with yall, exempt hunters shouldn't be required to buy any license but the law is what it is. Helping drag a deer has nothing to do with it. I don't like the baiting law personally but I won't teach my grandson that just because he dosen't like a law then it's ok for him not to follow it. I'll not raise a little thug.

Re: Baiting - 09/13/19 01:36 PM

Yall need to cool your jets about the 6 year old assisting thing. I know there are a few overzealous officers in Al., but if you think any of them are gonna write up 6 year old little Johnny for helping Paw Paw drag out a deer, you need your head examined. They will probably do a juvenile petition on a 17 year old that is night hunting, but they aint writing up no grade school kid for anything. Go ahead and take your kids hunting and if you dont want to buy them a "bait permit", then put their corn pile "over 100 yards away and hidden from sight by vegetation or natural terrain features". Just so you know, I am not in favor of the "bait permit" deal, but I have heard a bunch of people say over the years that they would gladly pay for the chance to put out bait. Course I have heard just as many or more say that baiting deer and hogs should just be made legal with no permit required. Dont think I have ever heard anyone advocating baiting turkeys.

Wheelgun, read down to Skullworks post with the e-mail from the Montgomery that says " assisting includes spotting game , dragging game and carrying equipment." I'd say the home office is where heads need examining.

I guess if you see a guy on the side of the road and he cant quite get his deer in the bed of his truck and you don't have a hunting license you can just stop and cheer him on. I'd think once the deer is dead the hunt would be over . That is when the work starts. SMDH

I know what they say, but never heard of anybody being arrested for helping someone drag a legally killed deer. Anyway, .my comment was that nobody was going to write up a kid who was helping Paw Paw drag a deer.

I certainly hope not , however, someone in the home office authored that BS, stating if a kid engages in those activities they need the license . If one needs a license to do something and you don't have one you are breaking the law and there are penalties for breaking laws. I searched the Alabama Code and could find no wording anywhere near that in the game laws. I suspect it was done as an enticement to sell more licenses . Whoever wrote that BS should be fired Monday morning, along with their boss .
