Back on public land. I've seen deer on all three previous sits. Wind just starting to pick up.

I’m not hunting but I’ve been outside. Very still and heavy frost in North Bama.

Not sure they will find the last acorns on our TN property until March or April... Red Oak acorns everywhere!

I watched a young 4 and a spike for a little while before a group of does came out. Another spike came out a little later. Was just about dark and I was about to pack up and call when I heard them scatter and cut up so I grabbed my binoculars and looked onto the field to see what was going on.He had busted right up in the middle of the field and started eating. I couldn’t make out how many points but I could see he was a big body and beyond the ears so I pulled up the scope and put it on his shoulders. I have pictures of a giant in that area so I didn’t want this one running away if it was him. Fired the shot and watched him do a backflip. He went belly up and started kicking. Messaged my buddy to let him know it was me that shot and there was a buck down. Gathered my stuff packed up and eased down to the field to find the deer was gone and not a drop of blood. I could hear him behind the field off in the creek and thicket so I just sat and waited until my buddy got there. We waited a bit hoping not push him before we went in to find him. There’s a creek behind the field so we split up on each side of the creek and searched along that. We’ve still not seen a drop of blood not heard any movement. I’m about 5 minutes from calling a dog in on this one. Anyways we walked down the creek bed about 30 yards or so through the nasty stuff when I saw eyes.. He was alive just laying there.. I kept my light on him and told my buddy he was about 20 yards from him and get where he could shoot him with the pistol. He gets about 10 yards away and fires a round. The deer gets up so he fires two more shots.. this joker trots off about 15 more yards and lays down again. I thought after that he’d surely be gone. I cross the creek to where he was and we fired 2 more into him. When I get there he says he should be dead and hands me the gun. He was still breathing just sitting there so I fire one into his heart.. again he goes to stand up and run so I fired 3 more into his neck. After that the war was over. That joker had a will to live like I’ve never seen. My first shot took out his front shoulders, after that one of the 9mm hollow points took out his back leg, one to heart and 7 to his neck before he died.

Had a very similar event 3 years ago with a .40 S&W, I got charged after my first shot with the pistol and then emptied it into his chest/neck. Its why I now have a 44 mag with a chest holster for tracking! You can see the holes in his neck on my mount if I point them out, makes for a cool story.
