Settled in with my girlfriend trying to get her first deer. Setup on a power line, with a green field on either side of us. Right at daylight heard a shot that sounded like it was on my property. Unfortunately can’t leave her and go get the sob

Jumped a deer walking in earlier. Also heard a shot that sounded like it was on my AL property. I might get down and see if that’s the case

Little late to stand. Had some issues with my safety harness. I'm here in Pike county and it's a beautiful morning! Saw 6 deer including a rack buck on side of 231 south of Montgomery on way down. Thank you lord for allowing me to see another opening day! Good luck all!

Didn’t feel real good about the spot I picked in the dark, so when the opportunity to whack some eatin’ size pigs presented itself, I let the little blackout pistol bark. 3 shots, 3 kills.

10 minutes later a button buck walked up and sniffed one of them and kept on about his way.

In a shooting house over looking some cut over and small field. It’s the wife’s first time hunting. Will be very lucky to see a deer. Buddy messaged me and asked if I shot.. told him it was just her shutting the truck door..
However we’ve managed to shoot plenty of selfies. Don’t see something soon it could be an early rut in this shooting house 😂

Re: LFTT Opening day edition - 11/17/18 06:22 PM

The only thing we shot were “selfies.”
Got to a shooting house before dark. Achievement 1 has been met at this point.
We get settled in and I said there’s a good chance there will be some coming across this cut over right at daylight and I started into my bag to get some binoculars and then was blinded by camera flashes. I looked up like what in the heck are you doing and she had snapped a picture of me and was taking photos lol.. she captured my what heck you doin face
All in all she was about as stealthy as a piano tumbling down a flight of stairs for about the first 45 minutes.. I suppose after that she was posting her pictures because she did at one point sit still.. then her feet got cold so we did a foot tap for a bit and she said I just can’t sit still let’s walk down over the hill. Absolutely a great idea I thought, so we eased through the cut over following some deer trails towards a hardwood creek bottom. We took our time walking and I pointed out some of the deer sign and just kind of chit chatted about deer sign. She went through that cut over like a champ and even stopped me a few times to show me some deer prints and bedding.

We walked a good ways through some thick stuff and ended up at a pretty spot on the creek bed with several white oaks and sign everywhere. I figured if we ever were to see a deer that this would be the spot. I found a spot about 35 yards away from some large active white oaks where we could still see the flat and cut over pretty good. We settled in against a tree with some vines in front of us hoping to break up the silhouette. I knew she would be moving all around.
Few minutes go by and I noticed some subtle movements off in some thick area. I told her we may have a deer headed our way. I didn’t have time to hand her the rifle before a big nanny presents herself perfectly broadside. I whispered there’s your deer. She leaned over looking for it and her phone goes off... it’s that Siri thing asking how she can help us.. doe kind of scampers off. She said why didn’t you shoot it?
I told her I was letting her shoot her first deer. Her response to that was “ well I mean I want to shoot one but our deep freeze has no deer meat in it so you do what you gotta do.”
That was an affirmation of why I love this gal.
We had to go not long after that and she wanted to walk around the creek bend to see what was there. She followed a trail that led us to some good rubs and a sure nuff buck hot spot. She said can we put that double ladder here or you just get me a climber?
I said you want to use a climber? “I’d love to learn how to use one” she said..

I don’t know how well she will do as a tree stand hunter but I may have myself a stalk hunter in the making.
All in all ended up being a great morning with the wife. Thankfully she loved it and seems to be all in now!
Maybe I won’t get scolded anymore for buying all the hunting crap I buy.

My next adventure is my 6 yr old chatterbox daughter.. here’s a few photos.. to be continued

Gun hunted this morning only saw one doe. Bow hunting this afternoon in a hardwood bottom

I'm so far back in the woods I don't know if I really want to pull the trigger given an opportunity. South wind is about the only wind to hunt this spot. Its 400 yards from a foodplot but there's a 150 feet of elevation change between here and there.

Saw 3 does this morning and 12 hogs. Shot one of the hogs. That is my first hog kill. Back in the stand now watching a greenfield between pines and hardwoods

I saw 6 does this morning, they walked directly under my stand, I would have shot one
Of them but there is a big 8 point, and a big 6 point that is hanging out in that
Spot. I'm hoping that they stroll through next time. Congrats on the
awesome bucks this morning guys.

I’m finallly showered and in my chair watching football so I can post some pics. The buck was 160lbs field dressed so he was somewhere north of 200 lbs live weight. Just an absolute tank of a body on him. Thankfully my buddy Bloodtrail came and helped me get him out of the woods because I could not get him out by myself. I shot him at 8:40 and he ran straight down a very steep and deep bottom. I hunted a very thick area this morning and shot him at 30 yards. It was an incredible hunt and I just thank the Lord for the ability to get in the woods and for a beautiful buck. FYI my face looks like all puffed up because I got a bad case of poison oak this weeek that dang near swole my eyes shut!

DDD, dead doe down. I was late getting to my stand this afternoon.
I had to attend a funeral for one of my good friends. But I got to a
Shooting house that is the first greenfield at my club. I hadn't been
here 10 minutes,I was looking at Facebook. When I put my phone in my
Pocket I looked up and 5 does was in the greenfield. I picked out the
biggest one and boom. Now I'm sitting here hoping a big buck walks
out.

I was hunting a power line and got in the stand about 1:30. He came out with a spike about 2 and started feeding on briars and honeysuckle. I took about 15 mins until he gave me the shot I wanted. He dropped in his tracks at 130 yards.

I saw about 8 or 9 deer, but most of them came out at dark. I could tell 2 were bucks and one of them looked good. I wasn’t confident enough to pull the trigger on him, though. He was running deer around and posturing in front of my trail camera and I know I got 3 pics of him. I’m gonna be sick if it’s a monster lol. I’ll check the camera later and hopefully he’ll come out a little bit earlier next time
