No, but as many deer I’ve killed whist sitting a piece of logging or farm equipment, I’d say diesel and pine works darn good.

Dead down wind. A lot of that stuff smells fake to me. Now breaking a line limb and running it on you would help. If it comes in a jug , it's gonna smell fake.

Re: Best cover scent - 11/11/18 03:44 AM

I actually have a recipe of 3 cheap ingredients that brings bucks in like mad and it never fails. They drop their guard and come on into it smelling hard then licking it, its better than the rut. They will actually bed down next to it in a field.

I discovered it by accident whilst mixing different concoctions to attract hogs.

One comes in a jug, the other a plastic bottle, the other a foil packet.

It would be easier for some of the less intelligent aldeer members if you would just tell us the ingredients in your recipe . Im liable to blow myself up trying to figure it out.

I think the best thing to cover scent is plywood and good glass windows. Silicone all the cracks.

Vanilla extract 99 cents a bottle , at dollar general.
I buy 3 bottles and pour it in an empty spray bottle
And spray my clothes down and put them in the dryer.
Then when I get to were I'm gonna hunt and spray down
Just like any other cover sent.

B.A.Tree makes good cover scents but you have to order it online the pine scent smells just like fresh cut pine sap. ive had some stuff that smells like a whore at christmas time but the batree is good

Re: Best cover scent - 11/11/18 12:33 PM

My preferred scent anymore is none. I don’t want to smell like anything at all. But if I just have too I’ll put a touch of coon or fox pee on the heels of my boots. Not much, like I’ve seen others do, so I reek of incontinent grandma coon.

Shines

But, all you can hope that it gives you that extra second to get a shot off. you just can't beat a deer nose. Just hope you have the wind in your favor.

This x2. Shines works pretty good. BA Tree pine is also decent. I always use a cover scent but typically set up with wind being the number one factor

Used Shines Acorn Scent one time. Best yellow jacket and opossum attractant ever used. No Joke.

Yep. Shines on an 80 degree day in October is a yellow jacket magnet. I have used it off and on for years, especially bow season. It will sure attract some stinging critters.

I'm actually going to try this, but I think I'm going to add something from a bag and possibly a little bit from a jar.

One serious question, how long do you let it sit before you use it and does it get better with age???

The stuff I happened upon makes them throw caution to the wind. Even more so than a piece of tail.

I always hesitate to post secrets or techniques because so many hunters can’t master the most important technique or “being still”.

So, you don't want your sons or grandsons to master the most important technique of hunting??? If they use your potion, they won't have to sit still since caution has been thrown into the wind.

You are right, hunters are always looking for that magic potion, that one thing that will increase their odds, give them an edge, whether it is the best equipment or that magic spot. It happens in hunting, fishing, baseball, golf or in almost any hobby. Where is the shortcut??? You've discovered that irresistible aroma that causes a buck to throw caution to the wind, never fails, and brings then in like mad, even better than a live doe in heat, which no doubt would be worth millions of dollars, and you are so noble that you want people to be better hunters so you will keep it to yourself. Please excuse my skepticism and sarcasm. Also, your name now makes sense to me...just sayin.

Ground up wax myrtle. Rub it on my clothes then put in in my pocket. Grows everywhere I hunt.
