Staying warm

How to y’all dress fro the cold weather? Looking for Some specific items, I got cold out there today.

I'm not one to ask. I sit in condos with heaters on cloudy cold days. Days like today were toasty in there. Nearly got hot

Moisture wicking layer
Insulation layer
Weather proof layer

The best thing I ever bought was a large 100% goose down vest from Cabelas. I wear it under my coat and bibs. If you can keep your core warm, you will keep your fingers, toes, and extremities warm because warm blood is being pumped to them. I don't even wear gloves anymore because I don't need them. Use as much wool and down as you can as opposed to cotton. Don't wear so much clothing that it cuts off circulation. That is the absolute worst thing if you are trying to stay warm. Less clothing made of wool and down is 10x better than more clothes made of cotton.

My outfit today thermal base, jeans and sweatshirt, light insulated pants and jacket rubber boots with toe warmer hot hand in each pocket no gloves regular hat..ill wear that until 20 degree weather then wear a boggin and insulated boots

My two best friends for extreme cold;

1. Hunter Safety Systems hand muff.

2. Arctic Shield boot covers.

These things changed my life hunting and fishing in cold. Wore them today fishing a tournament. They are remarkable. Can't wear them unless its cold and then you can't walk around much; they will burn you up. Not sure why they are not available online at BPS.

I hunted 25 degree weather in Kentucky today. The Cabela’s Wooltimate and Berber are best stuff I’ve ever owned. Wore synthetic long underwear, synthetic long sleeve T and jeans and did not suffer. I’ve got the hooded pullover and the pants.

I have the IWOM and it is the greatest dang thing ever for cold weather.

Polartec powerdry

Whatever you layer with make sure it has no mass to it. If it feels cold when you touch it, it will suck the heat out of ya.

Keep a big girl in the shooting house with you and cold weather will never be a problem. Other than that Polar Fleece and wool is your friend.

This stuff here is great. Not that cheap but it's not bulky and keeps you warm. I prefer it cuz I bow hunt alot during the year and wanted something that would keep me warm with feeling like an oversized marshmallow.

if you hunt in a ground blind or shooting house and don't have one of those little propane heaters you're a dumbass

Make sure you get a wind proof layer. Mine is Cabelas Berber. A wicking base layer is important too, but remember not to go too heavy if you don't want to overheat and sweat walking in and climbing. I have several sets from Cabelas and Nike compression base layers. NO COTTON! Wool and liner socks along with Arctic shield boot covers.

Why? They make noise and stink. They give off a glow to.

hasn't been my experience with them other than the glow but I dont think that matters. I've killed a pile of deer with my cheap academy brand heater running

Merino wool base layer, something like Cabela's Woolmate outer with wind shear. What you put between them really doesn't matter that much. I use a fleece pullover , heavy sweat pants and a light wool vest.

Pack boots like folks waaaaay up north wear with thin poly-pro liner socks and medium - heavy wool socks.

Light wool gloves and a muff with hot hands is the way to go for hands. Ya gotta cut the trigger finger off yer glove.

I use a Carhartt 2in1 head fleece on my noggin' .

Weve had deer walk right under our shooting house while we were heating up vienna sausages and drinking hot chocolate. If you have good windows and seal the cracks, they wont smell you. Gotta have a heater in a shooting house. Especially if you got kids with you.

Had a Mr Heater Buddy on low yesterday morning and it like to run me outa the 4x4 shooting house.

You can go to belks or kohls and get clearance cheap polyester dress socks they are the same thing I got a few I use and there is zero difference between them and the military surplus liners except one is 10-15 a pair and the dress socks are cheap as dirt

those dress socks make my feet sweat just thinking about them

I usually don’t have a problem staying warm and just wear an Under Armour base layer and a hoodie but damn near froze today down in a swamp and I stayed dry.

Mr. Buddy in a shooting house? No way!!! I would get naked in about 5 minutes just to survive. My coldest hunt was -5 in OK with wind chill -25. Now That was cold!!!

Thermal underwear , under armour base layer ....wind proof outer layer, and no more than 400gram on the boots. I had got into the rubber boot faze and finally figured out that your feet sweat in them and get cold quick.....Irish setter vaportreck are my go to boots

For one it is different with everyone, skinny people, fat people, very fat people, metabolism, temperature preference, so there really is no one cure all solution or must have brand name clothes. (Except for Artic Shield boot covers which I swear by!). LOL

As for myself, I dress in three or four thin removable layers that are thicker the further outward they are worn. I also will walk to the location wearing as little clothing as I can stand to avoid overheating and sweating. If I anticipate being really cold, I will put a 'full body hot-hands' in my LF breast pocket, to warm my heart. Then, I will use the normal size 'hot-hands' one in each lower front pants pocket, right next to the Femur Artery that feeds blood to your feet. Then, I will use two more 'hot-hands' for my gloves and I might even use one in my gator neck. That's what works for me.....

Is that right? Maybe just get a pair of big girl panties and toughen up. I don’t get cold in AL very much. Once or none times a year mostly.

Buy the right clothes, and unless its single digits, you wont need a heater. I definitely would not use a gas heater in a blind or shooting house with all the windows closed. Damn people, have a little sense.

well good for you buddy. if you're as tough as this guy don't get a heater for your blind. but if you're not a bad ass get one of the little buddy heaters like the rest of us sissies

Those heaters are the bomb. I don’t use them all the time but they are great. I have a small piece of land where all I have set up to hunt out of is ground blinds. One day last season during January the high was only 38 and I sat in that ground blind from 6am-12noon all I had on was jeans, a black t shirt and a black hoodie. I bet the inside of the ground blind was 60 degrees because I had the Little Buddy heater roaring. I even had to change out the propane tank once that morning. I also brought a thermos of coffe that morning. And on top of all that I think I saw 10 deer including a young buck chasing does. I don’t know why people think hunting has to be a tough guy competition, I’d rather be comfortable and have fun.

We usually roll out of bed and into the cab of a heated Suzuki mini truck. We drive the little truck right up to our blind or shooting house….bury it in the bushes…. and then sit in the shooting house with a little buddy heater. It can get a little chilly sometimes going from the truck to the blind until you get the heater fired up …..but most of the time it’s bearable.

Call me and my 10 year old son a DA on the internet, or to my face, and expect a response.

My father, grandfather, brother and his son, hunting buddies, 98% of people I’ve ever hunted with, and the majority of aldeer. All DA’s I guess.

It doesn’t take much to get a rise out of people now a days I don’t think it’s that serious

I’ve walked up mountains and I’ve waded rivers…..
I’ve sat all day and I’ve shaked and I’ve shivered……..
I’ve climbed 50 foot up in the tallest pine trees…….
I’ve sat on the ground with my gun on my knees……
I’ve stalked them on foot in the cold drizzling rain……
I’ve sat in fold out chairs watching long narrows lanes……
I’ve hunted when it was hot and when it was bitter arse cold…..
I’ve even done things probably better not told…….
After doing all that I’ve found there’s one thing that’s sweeter……
It’s sitting in a hut with a little buddy heater…….
So keep talking your smack to all of the masses…….
