The game meat is gone. Only one small neck roast left. Meat crisis.

Time to commence filling that freezer back up.

I still have plenty. This year was a crazy year. I had 2 surgeries, my wife had 3 surgeries and lots of other stuff going on, so we haven't eaten as much. Plus, we are empty nesters now and wow, could that boy eat. I plan to give some away to family soon so I will have a reason to kill some more this year. We normally eat 5 deer per year. I killed 6, but gave one whole deer away. I may have to limit myself to about 3 deer this year.

You would be surprised how much meat you can get off a deer if the limit is one per hunter. That means my wife and I get whatever we can from two deer per year. We eat heart, liver, kidneys, and all the muscle I can bone out, head to tail. My local buzzards show up at the gut pile and complain about nothing to eat but hide and bone.

I'll take deer any day of the week over cow. Tell you what - You freeze the backstraps in 6" chunks from any deer you kill, and I'll bring you cow ribeye steaks of the same weight to trade even.

Depends on the cut but my kids prefer ground deer vs ground beef any day of the week and it’s impossible to replicate fried deer tenderloin with beef.

Favorite meal in my whole family bar none including the MIL is grilled deer kabobs. Slice the backstraps 1.5 inches thick across the grain then cut into 4 quarters. Marinade skewer with onions bell pepper and tomatoes grill hot while basting, with wild rice and garlic steamed green beans tossed In bacon drippings and I swear best meal you ever eat.

It's great to have the ability to fill our freezers with such a delicious renewable resource. Can't wait to get started again in a few days.
