Will this be the closest one to Cullman?

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/22/18 01:00 AM

Possibly going to shoot for a Guntersville or Scottsboro area event but Hoover is probably you’re best bet. I’ll know by weeks end if I can get one any closer.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/22/18 01:08 AM

Guntersville would be a little closer, but I'll gladly go to HT!

Had a speaker change. Wildlife Section Chief Keith Gauldin will be giving the public land talk.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/22/18 05:38 PM

Of course, it's scheduled when I'm on duty. It seems like that's always the case, though.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/22/18 06:24 PM

If you have it in Guntersville please try to not have it at the state park. I realize that might be helpful financially, but it's a pain in the butt to get there.

Joe Wheeler SP would be a good venue.

Hwy 227 is getting a LOT of work and may still be if and when anything gets scheduled for this area. It's a real pain in the ass so maybe the Senior Center across from Piggly Wiggly could be used. And Sand Mtn Toyota has a conference room that various organizations use.

Or how about Huntsville since it has a few more people that live close.

I am registered and looking forward to this event. I just moved here from Oklahoma and I am excited to learn a little bit more about hunting and fishing opportunities in Alabama!

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/24/18 02:36 PM

Welcome to Alabama, Sifers23, and good to have you on the site. Oklahoma's a cool state but you'll find some solid experiences here, too.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/25/18 01:49 AM

rofl That information is confidential!!! My wife took work down here so here we are! I’ll be doing my best to beat up some public land this year. Maybe next year I can find a Weyerhaeuser lease, I got here in July this year and missed out. I went to a few but didn’t like what I saw after about the 4th 2hr drive and safari with no sign I figured I’d just try public land this year. I’ve had success on OK public lands but the landscape is a lot different here.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/30/18 12:17 AM

Okay folks, we only have 17 people registered so far. There should be that many just from here based off all the latest drama. Here’s your chance to get free food, here some good info and ask all the questions you’re dying to get answers to.

Help us fill the place so we have more reasons to expend, time and resources on these events.

So, will there be one in G-ville?

Re: Hunters Night Out - 08/30/18 12:14 PM

It seems to me hunters in the state line counties as a whole will have more interest. Family and friends thus hunting land across state lines. I can find a Tn processor for the meat but the do it your self skull mounts are what I’m trying to figure out.

Sorry... there will not. I couldn’t get everything lined up before hunting season. There is a slim possibility we’ll get schedule one in Huntsville but I’m waiting to hear back from a couple of places we inquired about having it. Until I hear back from them I will not know.

Yeah but you might not get a confirmation, not sure since it’s a treasure forest site. I can check.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/21/18 03:30 AM

I thought it went pretty well (it was calmer than some church business meetings that I have been at). It was good to hear the thoughts behind CWD and the approach that is being taken. Still not sure that I agree with all of it, but I am an analytical thinker and sometimes you just don't get the luxury of having data to make a decision. Not quite the crowd that signed up, but I believe there was between 25-30 people. It was good to meet NightHunter and MBrock. Interesting that I picked 49er out without ever having met him before.

Just a guess, and I may be wrong, but was he the white haired gentleman sitting up front on the left?

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/21/18 11:23 AM

Nice to meet CatHeadBiscuit last night. Wish I could have met some more Aldeer folks, I know there were some more in there, but when they ended the meeting it seemed like everybody scattered pretty quickly. It was getting late and I guess everybody needed to get home on a school night.
Posted By: Smells

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/21/18 11:27 AM

Learned a few things about aging deer from MBrock. Thank you for that. Filling my freezer is still priority #1 though.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/22/18 05:29 AM

Just out of curiosity what was the total attendance? It seems like the majority were AL Deer members. The better question might be how do we get more Alabama sportsmen involved in these events? I am new to this state and I am just getting familiarized with the game and fish departments here. From the meeting it seems like they need to see a lot more feed back from hunters and more interaction with the department. Feel free to PM me for any clean up or work days that are upcoming. I would be glad to volunteer time to help and I bet a lot of other members would be too.

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/22/18 05:34 PM

If you were there, say where you were sitting and what, if anything you asked. Maybe we can put some faces with names even though there weren't many formal introductions.

I was pretty much in the center of the room at a table with Billy ??? who was into 3d trad bow competitions. Not sure if Billy is on Aldeer or not. I was in my work clothes, green polo with khaki carpenter pants. I asked what efforts if any were being made to acquire additional public land to offset the losses. I did meet CatHeadBiscuit and his friend but I'm not sure who his friend was exactly or if he is on here.
Posted By: Honolua

Re: Hunters Night Out - 09/22/18 05:51 PM

I was in the back in a black polo with hat and glasses. I asked if the state had any plans to promote trapping. I also asked about the validity of aiming towards 1/1 Buck/Doe ratios regarding management. My last question was regarding the use of baiting taxes or feeder stamps as a direct stream of revenue for Fish & Game since they are entirely funded by us and get nothing from the general fund. The latter question will be one that I plan to follow up on with the legislators. The state guys need more resources and better ways to get a census of how many hunters there are. NOT trying to get into an argument about baiting with you boys right here but Something needs to be done. The state guys are facing some serious issues without the CWD threat. I think we all can agree that they need more resources across the board.
