Ravin R10 crossbow - 02/17/18 02:07 AM

I am interested in getting a crossbow so I can hunt the early bow season. I like the looks and size of the R10 by Ravin....Anybody have any thoughts on this bow?

My boss has one and he says it is bad to the bone.

I don’t own one but I’ve shot the older version, the R9, and it was incredible. They thought of everything. Everything I didn’t like about crossbows, they have addressed. Best crossbow on the market, IMHO.

Very nice with a extra nice price. More expensive than any gun I've ever owned. I'll have to stick to the economy low end stuff.

I bought one and used it this past year. I have been extremely happy. There has been a recall on the bolts due to a problem with the nocks. You have to use their nocks/bolts which is a drawback

So,the R10 is rated at 400FPS.....Being new to any form of archery, is this plenty of speed for deer hunting?

Im not an expert but that is plenty. 400fps is fast. Most id say are 300 or 330fps. 400 is super nice.

I am thinking of selling my Horton recurve to get one.

I would love to see the comparisons between the r 10 and r 20. 25 ft per second is not that much difference. Not sure if it’s worth the money but not sure if that’s all the differences.

I'm not sure on the newer models, but I'm pretty sure on the previous models, speed was the only difference.

Ten Point has a new one out over 400fps too.

Re: Ravin R10 crossbow - 02/20/18 01:48 PM

The tenpoint is nice no doubt, but I like the no rail friction of the Ravin plus being able to de-cock the bow without shooting. Plus, once you get it cocked, you don't have to do anything like remove the cocker from the string, you just insert the arrow. Plus it uses one ribbon instead of small individual cords to draw the bow. If I were to buy one, the Ravin would certainly be my choice. The only drawback is that once you get a crossbow, you have to learn to sit down to pee...according to Shaw.
