Anyone else out playing in the mud? James Spahn says it's supposed to stop raining between 9-10

I’m hunting a new cutover surrounded by hardwoods and short pines.

I'm sipping on coffee right now waiting on the rain to move out. As soon as it passes I'll be out playing in da mud. Good luck to y'all. It seemed pretty slow yesterday.

Also in a cut over next to a hardwood drain. Should be good this morning and rest of week.

I got up and was planning on going to sit in a climber behind the house... but decided to sit this one out... It didn’t seem to be raining too hard but the radar showed a lot of rain moving this way...

Here in Clarke County hoping to get lucky. Watching a field that borders new clear cut to the north west.

I'm sitting in a shooting house overlooking a Greenfield surrounded by thick pines. Hopefully big boy gets hungry as soon as the rain stops.

Live from the truck. Parked by my kids' trampoline watching the field behind my house. Seen 3 does, a small buck, and a coyote so far.

Rain appears to be ending here in Bibb. Time for venison to come out and play.

So when the rain lets up y’all think they will get on their feet? Just sat down in my ground blind....looks like maybe another hour before the rain quits

Let's hope so. Had a short-lived break around 8 this morning that got my hopes up.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/28/18 06:29 PM

Well it was a miserable sit this morning. Hoping the rain was going to let up and it hasn't. So I punted and drove to the only restuarant in town, jacks ! I could still be getting pounded by the rain but instead I'm enjoying a juicy double cheeseburger 😂. I'll get back in there once the rain stops. God was telling me I should of went to church this morning. But I think he knows the rut is going on at the same time.

Gonna slip into a ground blind in a hardwood stand this afternoon. It’s gonna be raining but I’m always extra mad at em towards the end of the season ha.

Sittin in a shooting house on a field. Seen 2 does and a buck so far. The buck slipped across so fast I never could get a good look at him.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/28/18 08:47 PM

I'm in some pines on a trail intersection. I've seen does come out of here and there's poop every ten steps. Now I just need a buck to come through looking for love.

Anybody out this afternoon? I'm sitting a patch with the wind banking strait from the N.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/28/18 09:07 PM

I'm in a tree overlooking a pipeline cut through thick, tall pines.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/28/18 09:16 PM

Sounds like a good spot... I didn't really want to sit in this patch, but with the wind blowing like it is it's the only way I can keep my sceny down.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/29/18 12:49 AM

Found some fresh scrapes this weekend on a field. I sat on the ground 200yds away from the field in the hardwoods surrounding the field this afternoon. There were fresh scrapes on the trails.

Had a doe get close enough for me to spit on it. A buck was pushing it, grunting the whole way. When the doe finally realized I didn't belong there, it froze along with the buck.

Pretty cool hunt. no shot.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/29/18 01:48 AM

Me and my lil boy watched deer from 4:40, ended up with 9 deer in the field at dark. No shooters and none of the does were acting like the rut was on. A great afternoon nonetheless, we had a great time together.

Re: LFTT 1-28 - 01/29/18 02:10 AM

Saw a total of 5 does today, no bucks. Had one in the crosshairs and she came close to biting the dust a few times but I just couldn't, kept thinking a buck was gonna come on out after her. I heard two fighting about 30 minutes before the does came out.

I saw nothing except for the tow truck I called to pull me out of the mud hole that tried to swallow my Tundra.
