Dog for Does?

Curious if anyone has ever called a tracking dog for a doe?

I just got to thinking about why we (I) hunt and what we (I) value...

I call myself primarily hunting for meat, but over the years have lost a couple of does without ever considering calling a dog. I haven't yet lost a buck, but I wouldn't hesitate to call a dog for a "good buck".

Just curious of others' thoughts on the matter.

If i'm willing to shoot it, then i'm willing to do all i can to retrieve it.

I'm about as easy a going guy you're gonna meet. But if you wanna see me red faced and shaking, shoot a doe and not put in all efforts to find it. We had a couple guys that used to hunt with us and if they shot a doe and it didn't drop or die within a short distance they wouldn't even try to find it. After a few times this happened and we went and found the deer less than 100yds away and they threw out the "it's just a doe no big deal" they were unpolitetly told to pack their chit and get the you know what off the property and do not ever think of coming back.

Yeah, I don't disagree... the couple of does I've lost were after looking hard (bad, non-fatal shots I believe). But again, it never occurred to me to get a dog after them. Although, I will admit, the idea of calling a tracking dog is relatively new to me after reading this site over the last few years.

Yes, did it this year

I was a little upset with my brother today for this exact thing. He shot 4 times at a doe and we found a little bloood last night and I told him to back out cause it was thick cutover and it would be easier in the morning. Well he said he looked for 45 minutes this morning and found nothing more than what I found in the dark last night. I couldn't be there cause I had to work and I'm convinced he didn't even look.

I will track anything,fawn,doe,button buck,buck.to us a deer is a deer.
