When do deer normally hit a scrape line?

When do deer normally hit a scrape line? - 01/13/18 06:21 PM

Found the best scrape line this morning I've ever seen. 10 scrapes, 2 rubs and lots of fresh droppings within a 100 yds. Multiple deer hitting these...different size scrapes and different size hoof prints. And it stunk like a McDonalds men's room!! Some scrapes less than 5 yds apart! One scrape was so active it was actually 3 scrapes grown into 1...almost 5'x3'!! I relocated a stand to overwatch that scrape line.

When do you believe deer check on and refresh these scrapes?

If it rains get to where you can see them,BEFORE THE RAIN STOPS!
They usually freshen at night. I can assure you when the rain stops a mature buck freshens his! Don't miss your chance like I did. They wind check scrapes and don't come to them during daylight usually. Sounds like a mature buck since it's big. Once they get with a hot doe they abandon scrapes.

be very aware that a mature buck will "j-hook" a scrape. so set your stand up accordingly

Don't worry bout when it's checked or fooling with cameras, hunt it while it's smokin' hot.

Definitely.

They'll hit 'em at night or early morning just before dawn. No absolutes, though. Have watched them midday before, too.

Sounds like a hot spot. Good luck!

They can show up anytime and the big scrape is probably being used by multiple deer!

I always hunt big scrapes on days I know it will rain. Killed my biggest that way.
