So I would assume the first week of January would be good time to go.

I second this. Anytime after Christmas you need to be in the woods as much as possible. Our peak breeding is around January 9th-10th so you catch them early searching for the first does in Christmas and then around the 2nd-3rd week of Jan will knock a few more down.

depends on the area, around Christmas to mid Jan.

^^^This. I killed my first wallhanger in Greene county on 12/31/90 when he came out in a greenfield full of does, and he wasn't there to eat! grin

I've hunted green county my whole life and it's typically around 20th of December through the 20th of January. They normally get hot around the 1st week of January.

I'm in Greene County and haven't even seen the first damn deer, so I can't be much help.

My experience in Greene was that the north end and the South end of the county were like two different worlds. North end was prime Christmas and New year's week, South end was two or three weeks later. But It's been a while since I hunted that neck of the woods.
