Dead deer after season...?? - 04/02/17 09:34 AM

We have found 3 dead bucks in the last month. Mostly gone from coyotes. One was in a pond with no a apparent cause of death the others were too far gone. We have never had this happen. Anybody else experience this.....?? Could it be sickness... ??

Could be chasing/rutting during all that warm weather and just got worn out?

Check their skulls behind the base of the antlers and see if there are any holes in em. I've gotten three deer this year that were found dead from brain abscesses.

I found one with a brain abscess as well. Had a big pocket of gel-like stuff under his skin on top of head.

I have found 2 dead does since season. This is about normal for me. Who knows what kills the deer I find. Could be shot, disease, hit by car, old age, etc. Nothing for me to be concerned with as I said, normal for me. But I understand your concern being more than normal and all bucks.

Yes but they died and were found around Sept near water. We find more mature bucks than any other deer.

I have found some deer skulls were they died and something drug off the rest'but never multiple deer at once. And like you said they all were 3 year old deer. But in the ones I have found was probably some deer that got shot and not found.because all I have found was all in thick brush. HOPE it's nothing to worry about. But by your pictures those were good bucks.I see pictures posted of deer I have been hunting for 4 to 5 years get killed it makes my gut hurt. The last real big one a guy only owns 40 acres around a 1000 acres I was hunting he killed a 16 point that scored 167 and some change.when I first was old enough to have a gun my dad bought me and my brother matching automatic 20 gauges we were squirrel hunting and we came up on a clearing and there was a deer she'd in an ant bed he picked it up and it had 16 points all on one shed we looked but never found the match to it .But it had to be a hoss.I was so stupid I found and older 8 point shed'so I tied that big shed and a 8 point shed to make some rattling horns. Then we put up a ladder stand on some property that we had permission to hunt.so I went the next morning to hunt and someone had stolen my tree stand' but most importantly my big shed'I left hanging on a limb. That was 30 years ago.

BSE ain't found in deer in Alabama...unless yer stretching names to make it CWD, which is the same thing but in deer. Also not found in Alabama deer as well.
