What is this that's in my imperial clover? It seems to be getting worse every year. I don't think clethodim will kill it. How do you get rid of this without hurting the clover?

Butyrac 200 is what I spray on mine for the broadleafs.

Cleth is what I spray for the grasses.

On the right is Carolina Geranium.

Oops, leaves are not deeply lobed enough for Carolina Geranium. I'll look in my Forest Plants book later and see if I match it up if you don't get an answer. But as said above, Butyrac.

I've got nothing, but when I looked at that first pic I was like that is clover.

I've got lots of it, I think it might be henbit. It's very dominant and likes moist soil but grows about anywhere

I'm guessing henbit as well. Does it have a purple flower?

I'd like to know how to kill it.

Re: Weed identification please - 03/25/17 07:06 PM

2,4-d b will kill it and not the clover. 2,4 d will kill all broadleaf s including clover or glyphosate will kill everything

I spray butyrac. I don't remember if it kills it or not. I also don't remember it having a purple flower. I get this stuff every year.

Common mallow? Or ground ivy?

Everyone will tell you to use 2,4 DB, but regular 2,4D does not kill some varieties of white clover. The University of Georgia did some published research on it and I concur. 2,4D will not kill the white clover in the lawn at my house. It may turn it yellow and brown, but it will not die.

That's not henbit. I don't know what it is.

Re: Weed identification please - 03/25/17 11:39 PM

I still think it's some variation/stage of Henbit.

I have it in my yard and seen it on my greenfields in Cherokee. About to find out if 2 4 DB kills it, just sprayed my yard. I also have hen bit in my yard and fields, looks similar but I think it's a different weed.

Re: Weed identification please - 03/27/17 06:29 AM

I use 1.25 qts/acre of gly on mature clover to kill most broadleafs and grasses in my white perrenial clover. It might stunt the clover a little but it bounces back very well. I only do this in the spring while the clover is in good shape and not stressed. You can do this on fall planted clover the next spring, not on clover planted in the spring.

It......is.......not........henbit.

I think it's Hairy Buttercup. If it's not it's something close to that. It will have a yellow bloom on it later.

I have a bunch of that stuff (or somthing very similar) in some of my plots. Grows in wet spots. I have some in places that I have not planted and the deer seem to browse it quite a bit.

Always wanted to know what it was.

If I remember correct. I think it does develop a yellow bloom. I sprayed clethodim before the rain. I'll try to hit it with butyrac this weekend if the fields aren't too wet to get on.

I've been a reader of Aldeer off-n-on but I have never saw Aldeer stumped about any question.

I think we have a winner. Definitely has a yellow bloom. I passed thru my worst plot of it yesterday turkey hunting and it is in full bloom. It is very dominant and has pretty much choked everything else out
