What does a 4 yr old buck weigh in your neck of the woods?

Strictly out of curiosity. I know deer are like people, some are bigger or smaller than normal, but what does a mature 4.5 yr old deer weigh on average and what part of he state are you in?

EDIT: I'm talking about deer that are weighed on a scale. Ive seen a lot of folks eyeball a deer and guess he'd weigh 180 lbs when he's really only a buckforty or so

I deer hunt in Talladega county, with no ag to speak of other than a couple of plots. Here they're around 175-185, before the rut.

200... Jackson County

The areas of Monroe I've hunted probably 160+.

I killed a 4 year old 8 north of Tuscaloosa in the mountains of berry, al and it was 150lbs...second largest bodied buck killed all season out of 80 deer

I've killed several that were 165 +/- 5 lbs field dressed in Jackson Co. during the rut. I guess that's about 210lbs live ?

Dallas 185-210 ish. Killed a 221 pound 8 point that was def. at least 4.5 on the 30th and he was 221 on the digital scale.

Brother shot an 8 that was also more than likely 4.5 in November and he was 187.

North Pike Co. 175-220 on deer I have weighed and had aged by a biologist.

South Barbour 200+.

170-200 in Choctaw county and 150-175 here at home in George county.

Just south of Atmore ours are 150-170.

Where I hunt we weigh all of ours gutted (Pelham Range military base). I do not know what the average is, but I killed a 5.5yr old in October that was 137 dressed. This is in Calhoun Co and they are only eating natural mast and browse. I just don't know what our average is. I killed a 6.5+ deer out there a couple of seasons ago that was 177 dressed, biologist said that might be the heaviest one he's seen. In general, I feel like these deer are smaller than average, I'd guess 130 dressed would be average for ours (gutted).

The one I killed Fri was 5 for sure possibly 6. I've been watching him 3yrs. He weighed 155 dressed. I'm assuming that would equate to 180 on the hoof. I've been thinking he would be bigger. But he wasn't. He was not run down at all. Had as much fat in him as I've ever seen. Healthy, just not a huge deer.

A mature buck in my area of Pike Co. /Crenshaw Co. will weigh 190+ on average. That is of course up until about January 10-15th, then their weight starts to drop.

At my place an average 3 yo will be 165-180ish.

I have weighed does up to 165#, and several between 135-150#.

155 dressed is about 195 live

200-230 live

200 early season, 175 now

160-180 if I had to guess. There was a 177lb gutted 8 point weighed at the check station in the first gun hunt at Oakmulgee that the biologist said was heavier than normal.

Good to know. The one I killed this past week was 150# dressed. Kinda wondered what it would weigh on the hoof. We've always dressed em before weighing them.

We've had several deer killed the last several years that are 4.5ish 140"-165" and all field dresses between 135-150#s so I guess that equated to probably 180-190#s on the hoof on average for us.

Autauga co. 170-190lbs

Bucks over 3 we have killed this year have all weighed in excess of 200. The biggest was 227. Tuscaloosa

South Russell County, mostly timber managed land, very little agriculture. 3 year old deer dominate our harvest. 160 lbs is a very common weight on those deer, some go more and some are under. We have had very few aged at 4.5 but the weights were a little more. I think they were in the 180-190 neighborhood. 200lb bucks are rare as hens teeth on our property and we rarely see a doe surpassing 125lb.

These listed weights bear an almost uncanny resemblance to the weights before everyone started shooting does to lower the population and allow the bucks to grow much bigger.......

Then again, dang if the Rut dates don't have that same eerie quality about them, too!!!

Really varies on our place in South russell/north barbour. The buck I shot earlier this year was aged at 4 1/2 by a local biologist after I pulled the jawbone. He weighed 165. Usually our 4+ yr old bucks are anywhere from 170-200 prior to the rut. Buck I shot at the end of the season last yr was aged at 5 1/2 and weighed 165 as well but at the very end of the season.

Before the rut: 175-200 lbs.
After the rut: 140-175 lbs.

In Western Fayette Co we have killed 4-5 year old bucks everywhere from N 145 - 200 with an average probably somewhere around 180. and the 145 scored 150+ NDepends on the deer and time of year they just like people some are bigger than others

range from 170 to 220 and depends on pre-rut or post rut. I killed a 5 or 6 year old buck a few weeks ago (good buck I've had on camera since he was at least 3 1/2). Before I killed him I would have bet $100 that he would weigh a minimum of 190, but his actual live weight was 168! I'm sure he's lost 8-10 pounds from the rut, but still not what I was expecting. Maybe the drought has impacted their weight this year???

Not sure about other Jackson Co. bucks, but I think our weights vary a lot more than most other places in Alabama. I always say God made our bucks smaller b/c they have to climb up and down mountains every day, but the truth is I have no idea.

Seems like most places (black belt) can almost age deer by their weight...

4 year old plus- 200+

We have short, stocky bucks and also longer bucks.

We weigh and age all our deer on my lease so I will say the average is 155. We have some a little smaller and an occasional 170-180 lb one.

On our club in Blount county, 175 lbs or so.
