Alabama Rut Tracker 2015-2016 - 12/01/15 11:25 AM

It may be a bit early but things could be getting started up in north AL. Seeing some reports from Greene County.... Did this last year on here and it was pretty useful.

Report your rutting activity here. Try to include: County, Type of activity, weather, PICS!!!, etc.

Seeing rubs and one scrape has little to do with the rut.

I scouted a spot out on Bankhead yesterday and counted 16 scrapes in about a four hundred yard area. I'm going to give it a try Thursday morning.

Found 25+ scrapes and at least that many rubs in bankhead last weekend in about a 15 area section. Seen some of the biggest rubs I've ever found. Hopefully this weekend it will be in high gear

Re: Alabama Rut Tracker 2015-2016 - 12/02/15 04:29 PM

Also found a greenfield with a mineral block and ladder stand inside the boundary lines by a good bit. From the side I come in I walk right thru the middle of it too. I would find another way around if it didn't have a mineral block. Also seen what I still think was cracked pieces of corn. Idk what else it could be.

I haven't seen any scraps in Northeast AL bottomland yet. Haven't been in mtn much. Friend killed a young buck hunting scraps in bport yesterday. But I am just down the road and seen nothing. Going to look for some today and tomorrow. Figured this little cold spike would throw em in gear. All I've seen is does and lil' ones. I never put much stock on November scraps anyway.

We've had monster scrapes in all our fields since the beginning of gun season in North Butler county. I think they are community scrapes. It's our first year hunting this part of the state. We have multiple bucks working the scrapes. Never seen anything like it,and I don't believe the deer rut is in December there, but it's cool to see. Hope it's a fun January and early Feb.

I saw a buck chasing several does this morning on the side of the interstate just east of Exit 6 on 459 (headed west) this morning. I'll probably see a few greasy spots in the road on my way back... I'd say they're rutting in central AL.

Haven't been in the woods much, will be over the next 2weeks. Last Saturday I seen 5 bucks all 2yr olds all on their feet looking. One was trailing a doe. This was in Talladega county. This is my family's property been hunting it my whole life. Normally when I see the 2yr olds doing this 5 to 10 days later I'll start seeing the mature ones go stupid. Now this weather may mess it up a little but it's really any day now.

Thats about right for us to. I went back through some pics from the last couple years and had some pics of a couple bucks that had lost half the antlers fighting. One had it on the 17th and next pic on the 23rd he had it broke off. The other buck I didn't have a before but had an after and it was the 28th.

Running along the side of the trees with his tongue out of his mouth and nose to the ground...If you're a Jefferson County/central AL hunter, you should be in the woods right now.

I shot a bruiser yesterday in Clarke County in between Grove Hill & Thomasville. I did a rattling sequence followed by buck & doe grunts. After the 3rd sequence he came busting out of a pine plantation into an old cutover all bowed up looking for a fight. The 150 grain corelokt won the fight. His neck was swollen and tarsals were nasty. The does are just starting to come in estrous. He was 4.5-5.5 years old.

I agree. Finally saw a lot of cruising yesterday. I saw four different bucks nose up passing through the plot. All young but it's about to get good. I'd say the big boys should be up and at 'em by this weekend.

My experience also. Went Saturday and saw trees, rocks and leaves--and one squirrel. Don't know what's going on there. Starting to be concerned about how many does are being taken from Skyline.

I haven't heard any real good rut reports from Jackson to know if it has already occurred or is yet to.

I hunt between 3 different properties with about 15 miles give or take apart and I'm telling you it's dead this season for some reason. My game cams aren't getting much action. One place that's my honey hole " was " I think is dogs is running them crazy. I got down this morning about 10 and had two dogs running by one stopped the other was on a scent. I just can't bring myself to shoot someone's dogs though. It had a coller and all

We had that issue in Macon Cty with exception of no collars on all four bull mix dogs. Four of them had been chasing our deer past us when in stands. Our fawn count was way down this season as well.

What part of Jackson county do you hunt?

Lionsden, same exact thing we're experiencing at our spot in Woodville. Been an odd and slow yr. I'm taking a long weekend this weekend, hopefully I see some activity.

Re: Alabama Rut Tracker 2015-2016 - 01/20/16 11:28 AM

Toured some land yesterday on the Dallas Lowndes county line and saw numerous young bucks chasing does. Every field had plenty of does and most had bucks chasing them. Some of the bucks I would consider to be "shooters" and the guy I was with thought differently. Riding around on a large acre tract of land that has been managed very anally on an electric SxS was definitely a trip to remember! They've killed a few in the last week but the breeding hasn't started yet. All the bucks still have hair on their stomach and cods, once you start seeing bald cods you know the breeding is in full swing!
