LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 05:24 AM

We're actually gonna be in the duck blind this morning for the waterfowl opener so I guess it should say LFTB. I'll be back in the tree this afternoon, though. Good luck everyone! Gonna be another warm one today.

Sitting on a beautiful green field. Thankful for a good friend that pulled some strings to get me on some fantastic property. Praying to finally get my first.

Sitting under the moonlight in one of my favorite stands, looking through the hardwoods, with a not so great wind... Hoping one of these bucks is trying to slip by for a bite on his way to bed...

First rifle hunt of the season for me...

Re: LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 07:38 AM

The wife and I are sitting in a shooting house watching a greenfield at the farm. After the chaos of yesterday, she asked if she could come with me this morning. She's already made a comment about how peaceful and quiet it is out here. I think she is starting to figure out my secret. I could be in trouble.

I'm in a shooting house too. I saw a doe and fawn at daylight, but they never offered a shot. I'm tired of spectating! I need some meat

Set up in a hardwood draw. Watching some trails and also have a view of a greenfield 250 yards away. Nothing yet, except squirrels.

Seen more deer roadkill than in the woods....need some cold weather!

Re: LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 10:03 AM

With this weather, warm and breezy, I'm not gonna go stink up my spots or pressure the deer. I like to pick the better days to hunt and pressure the deer as little as possible. Our opening day was yesterday. Slowest I've seen in a long time, but it makes sense with this warm weather we are having. I'll get back at it when conditions get better.

Re: LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 12:47 PM

Well everything worked out like it was suppose to up to the recovery. Hunting in Bankhead and the rut is pretty much kicking for the most part. Hunting a small bowl of hardwoods with pines fingering down from 4 sides. Lots of scrapes/rubs in the pines getting worked over pretty good. Didn't see anything so I decided to do some rattling at 8:30. About 10 secs into it I hear a deer barrelings off the bluff down to my stand. By the time I put the antlers down he was standing below my stand. Amazing the terrain they can cover in such a short amount of time. This buck litteraly jumped down a 5 foot rock face. Unfortunately I had dropped my jacket while climbing the tree and the buck went right to it and got jumpy and started to haul butt back up the hill. I did a doe bleat and he paused giving me a nice 70yd quartering away shot. When I hit the buck he rolled back on his back two hooves and tumbled three times down the hill before he jumped back on his feet and ran over the hill top. I found five drops of blood and that was it. I searched for 3 hours and did not find another drop of blood. Can't believe I lost this buck when I hit him he was dead to rights stiff legged falling backwards. SMH

Re: LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 05:01 PM

Just got home from a hunt with a friend on some TVA land only accessible by boat. He killed two deer off it this year, so we had high hopes in getting me my first. Go set up early, ready to go, but ended up seeing nothing. and DANG it was hot. Still had a fun time, enjoyed being in the woods. Probably won't be back out till next weekend.

Re: LFTT 11/27/15 - 11/27/15 06:15 PM

I had a 5 point come out at 4:00 and I watched him for about 30 minutes. Finally, about 5:00 deer started pouring into the far end of the field and there were 7 total. I think I made a good shot on a big doe that I've watched for a few years. She has VERY long white, belly hair (I believe she's 5 years old now). She bulldozed across the field and I believe she crashed just inside the woods

Here's the 5 point

Our group saw 20 deer this afternoon...tryn to get my lil sister her first deer and we had 3 does come out and a small spike...family rule is first deer has to be a buck so I asked if she wanted to shoot the spike and she said she wants it to have a rack/be a 3 point or better...she was shaking like a leaf and had a blast!! It's what it's all about!
