Need a Shooting House / Box Blind - 08/31/15 12:13 PM

Who makes or sells an affordable shooting house / box blind around the Montgomery area? Need to buy one for my dad as he can't climb a ladder stand any longer. Looking for a 4x4 or 4x6...something I can put on the ground or set on a platform a few feet off the ground. Appreciate your help...

Not sure the name of the company now, but just out I-85 about 3 miles from Thompson Cat, on the same side of the interstate as if you were headed to Georgia, a guy has some set up for sale. I believe it's in the Pike Road Storage lot.
I have some just like them and they are really good

Get one bigger than 4x4, they are too small for me.

I am using an old wooden playset for a shooting house this year. Very little to do to make it huntable.

I know you said you want one that sits up off the ground but may want to think about a pop-up blind. They are light, easy to brush in, very roomy especially if you get a double one and he's sitting alone, durable, easy to move if need be, and pretty affordable.

The stands you refer to off I-85 are priced at $850 for one man,

Yes, our group got a couple from him and they are nice. His windows are about 5 inches too short for our preference, but I'm sure he can adjust them to your liking.

For that price they need to come with cable or satelite TV. You can build one a heck of a lot cheaper than that. A pop-up blind is very handy and easy to move. Sportsmans guide has some that are pretty cheap. They have a 4'x4'x10' high for around $500. You should be able to build a 4'x4' box blind for $200 easy and it wont take but part of a day to do it. You can build it a lot cheaper if you can use scrap lumber or tin. Use scrap pallets and either screw tin to them, or wrap a tarp around them. Old crates can easily be made into a nice shooting house. Listen, it doesn't have to be the Taj Mahal, it just needs to keep out the rain and wind. Some people go way overboard on shooting houses.

Building a house is ALWAYS more expensive than you think. Shooting houses included. Not to mention some people don't have a lot of spare time and what they have they try to bank for hunting season.

You are correct. The time saved is worth a lot. Being able to have it built then just pick it up and take it to your lease saves me time. I like the sliding plexi-glass windows Moodyc24 puts on his houses.

I find it comical that no one has a day to build a shooting house, to save 100's of dollars, but they have so much time to hunt. To each his own. Sounds like i need to start building shooting houses for people.

I will build a shooting house for the features and the way I want one. But I won't spend a day on anything to save a $100 dollars. My time is worth more than than that.

Every club has them. We've got one who hunted EVERY weekend with his sons last year (or so I'm told) and no one has seen him at any of the work days save one. He went to "trim out" a couple roads and no one could tell where he'd done it. Must be nice.
