Do any of you know if the Ruger P85's that were made back in the 1980s and 90s were good pistols in regard to function and accuracy? I'm trying to find a decent full size 9mm in the $250 to $300 range (can't afford another Glock).
Or, any other ideas for full size 9mm's that actually cycle and function and fall into this low price range?

The P85 was built like a tank. The only one I have ever seen that didn't function was due to the owner spilling Dr Pepper or Mountain Dew on it. He told me but I can't remember which it was. Anyway, I took the grips off of it and sprayed it out with gun scrubber. It ran like a new from that point on.
The thing I don't like about them is they are big and heavy. The grips feel awkward to me too. Hogues help the grip.

They are good functional pistols but Palmetto States Armory has the XD'-M 40 for $299 shipped right now. You can't do better than that for the money.

Biggest problem with the P85 is that it's too light to even make a decent boat anchor. There are WAY better pistols on the market for close to that money.

To me I wouldn't get hung up on 9mm and have to settle on a lesser gun. You can for sure, without a doubt, pick up a police trade in Glock or M&P for around $300. Might be $325 but that's worth saving an extra $25 for. The problem I see is you'll have to get one in .40S&W. Would not be an issue for me but if you want a 9mm you'll likely have a harder time in that price range. Maybe a Beretta 92s Police Trade.

I've got one I've had 20 years as far as accuracy and reliability they can't be beat. Worst case scenario if you don't stop them by the time you've emptied the magazine. You can use as a sledge hammer to beat them to death. I use it for my truck gun. I have the P90 40cal. My experience is the same as above.

Take a look at a Canik TP9 for a cheap pistol. I have a friend who has one of these and he absolutely loves it. We shot it at Sheepdog Training Center range on Deerfoot and it was very accurate and went bang every time.
