About a year ago I started using a thumb release; all went well for awhile. The arthritis in my fingers/hands progressively worsened and on two separate occasions I had the release slip out of my grip. Tuesday I was drawing back to take a fourth shot when it happened again, this time I wasn't as lucky as before. The release hit the cable guard on my Hoyt, then hit the back of my bow hand before landing about 40ft away. while there is only 2 small gashes on the back of my hand, I think it may have fractured a bone in there.
The good thing is that the only damage to the bow is the cable guard was dinged pretty good and the carbon fiber part is cracked by the screw. It was beginning to need some new strings and cables anyway so I will replace the cable guard when I get the strings. The release was broken during this and I started thinking about going back to the wrist strap style release, I like using the thumb over the index finger but I think this was my sign.

They make a combo...wrist strap with a thumb release. A friend shoots one. Can't remember who makes it. Scott makes one. They also make a hinge with a wrist strap
