I've shot a compound bow my whole life!, but more and more lately I've been debating a crossbow, my current bow is a no cam htx, but considering a real nice Barnett, can someone convince me to keep my compound, or is having a crossbow just much more worth having

Are you selling the compound to get the crossbow? Or are you considering buying the Barnett and having both.

They both kill deer. Both are fun to shoot.

The crossbow is easier to shoot, yes, as everyone who hates them likes to yell about. Cock it and then aim and pull the trigger. But it still requires practice, getting comfortable with it, finding the best arrows-heads, and determining your ethical range. You're not going to be shooting stuff at 80 yards just because it has a stock and trigger.

Within 40 yards they kill the chit out of deer when you do your part. It's like hitting them with a 4x4.

If you can shoot one for a while before buying, I'd recommend that.

If you really like shooting a compound, Even if you do go with the crossbow, don't get rid of the compound. I shot a right hand compound for over 25 years, my shoulder finally went, I bought a barnett crossbow and shot a deer with it this season. It's not the same. 2 weeks after I shot the deer with the crossbow I bought a left handed bow because I missed shooting the bow.

I would keep the compound no matter what. They are fun to shoot and if you have kids then they will love the crossbow. Win Win either way. That is what i did. Just my 2 cents.

When they became legal in Indiana several years ago I swore I would never have one. Then last year I wanted one to use in shooting house when it was raining. I found a great deal on a WR. I decided to get it. After shooting it I never picked up my compound this year. It was good from 10 to 60 yds. I stayed away from Barnett after reading all the reviews. Plus after reading all the great reviews on 10pt and the service dept. I went with them.

BTW, TenPoint also owns Horton and Wicked Ridge crossbows. All three are really good. The Wicked Ridge is their more affordable line but is very good and more than enough to kill deer.

I shoot a Barnett and haven't had any problems with mine but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a TP, WR or Horton bow.

Had to start using a crossbow several years ago and have gotten used to it...I have killed a few deer with it but I do miss the compound bow.
I would say they both have their good/bad points but whatever type you want to shoot is fine with me

I've been reduced to the crossbow due to multiple shoulder surgeries and arthritis. But I much prefer a compound bow. Smaller, lighter, less bulky, more powerful and no issues with "decocking".

My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Troy I was right in the middle if that war. I was one of the most outspoken against the crossbow and I still believe they should be limited to the disabled only. But we were beaten from the start and just didn't know it. We could not compete against the money that was spent to buy the support for the new regs.
